AI arrives at the supermarket with SABIA

Last update: 13 June, 2026

SABIA presents itself as Spain's first conversational supermarket, and the idea, at least on paper, makes a lot of sense at a time when "healthy" shopping has become almost a part-time job. The platform, founded by Dori L. Nieves, doesn't just want to sell products online, but rather guide users through the shopping process using artificial intelligence, personalized recommendations, and a community of wellness professionals. In other words, fewer digital aisles full of pretty labels and more useful conversation to help us understand what we're actually putting in our baskets.

The proposal rests on three pillars: an online supermarket specializing in healthy products, a conversational experience based on AI, and SabiaConnectA community of experts in nutrition, health, wellness, and lifestyle. The key is that users can directly ask the platform which product best suits them, what gluten-free alternatives exist, how to organize a purchase better suited to a sports routine, or which options make the most sense based on their preferences, intolerances, or goals. SABIA also remembers conversations and preferences, and can even complete the purchase for the user.

So far, the platform has already served with over 1.500 orders in the testing phase and its avatar, a nymph named SABIA, has over 25.000 followers on Instagram. It's certainly an interesting detail, but also a clue as to where e-commerce is headed: less impersonal cataloging and more guided experiences, almost like talking to someone who understands your quirks, your goals, and your limitations. SABIA doesn't seem to want to compete solely on price or promotions, but rather on context. And in healthy eating, where we often buy more by intuition than by knowledge, that could be a real niche. Now comes the hard part: demonstrating that their recommendations are useful, understandable, and, above all, reliable.
