Acer Swift 7, a nice slim laptop at an irreverent price [Review]

We return in Actualidad Gadget To analyze one of the products that are always present in our daily lives, what could be better than that? TWe have in our hands one of the thinnest and most efficient laptops on the market, however, in turn it has generated a harsh controversy around its price and hardware.

Stay with us to learn about all the features of this laptop that elevates the concept of utility and portability to the maximum expression.

If it has already caught your attention we invite you to stop by THIS LINK where you will be able to acquire it at the best price, at least with the guarantees that a product of these characteristics deserves, if you are willing to pay what the Acer firm asks for it, of course.

Design and materials: A completely real "wow" effect

What will attract our attention the most about this laptop is definitely that it has one of the best used panels in its segment, the ratio between the body and the screen of the same is 92%, the edges are almost tiny and that is not too common. Other companies insist on disguising them with a black edge and glass inside the panel, but few obtain the results offered by this Acer Swift 7 from 2019. This has undergone a revision with respect to the previous one in the hinge system that is quite successful, since the earlier it was prone to breakage, as well as subjectively ugly.

  • Size: 317.9 x 191.5 x 9,95 mm
  • Weight: 890 grams

We have a weight of barely 890 grams, portability is assured if we count on what measures 317.9 x 191.5 x 9,95 millimeters thick. It is extremely fine and this is appreciated when you pick it up. However, the first disappointment we give it to the touch, we find that it is made of a combination of aluminum, titanium and magnesium according to the company, and this does not seem too successful in a laptop whose base price is above 1.500 euros. It is the first disappointment that I have taken in the analysis of this device.

  • Makings: Corning Gorilla Glass 6
  • Body: Metal
  • Colors: White-Silver and Black

However, it has certain aspects that inevitably surprise you, an example is that we have a retractable camera placed just above the keyboard. The other striking aspect is the fingerprint sensor fingerprint located on the left side that acts as a  and I have to admit that I found it by pure intuition after looking at the laptop with a face of circumstance. The maximum thickness of the notebook is 9,95 millimeters and this places it as one of the thinnest on the market, it is a detail that we cannot ignore.

Hardware: We have one of lime and another of sand

We find an edition that has the processor Intel Core i7-8500Y dual-core, in our case we tested the model that has 8 GB of RAM and 512 GB SSD storage, so far fine. I can't quite understand why for this test we have the maximum storage, but not the maximum RAM, which has left a bittersweet taste in my mouth for two main reasons: The device comes standard with Windows 10 Home, a version that does not exploit all hardware; The device has 8 GB of LPDDR3, instead of taking advantage of the more logical LPDDR4 model in a laptop of these characteristics. The result is dull performance that we can get for a few hundred dollars less.

  • Processor: Intel Core i7-8500Y dual-core
  • Card graph: Integrated UHF Graphics 615
  • Storage: 256/512 GB PCIe SSD
  • Conference proceedings RAM: 8GB / 16GB LPDDR3

At the graphic level we have an integrated graphics card that makes us suppose what we are going to find, an office work use, consume some content and we can ask for little else. The requirement is not his thing and he does not seem to hold up too well with games like Cities Skylines. Definitely the usefulness of this laptop is more sensory than purely energetic.

Everyday use: Trackpad, keyboard and connectivity

The first problem is repetitive in this type of product, from the first moment the bittersweet sensation begins and is that you cannot open the laptop with just one hand, the hinge is not well adjusted and you have to hold it so that it does not lift completely, this to me is a serious flaw and cannot be opened with one hand. As for the trackpad, we find a fast, effective ultra-panoramic system that works surprisingly well, The use of this type of hardware has been very successful.

  • Retractable camera
  • Connectivity: 2x USB-C, WiFi 802.11 ac, Bluetooth 4.2, 3,5mm Jack.
  • Backlight keyboard

Another relevant aspect is that we have a retractable camera that comes out and is hidden simply by pressing what looks like a button but is not. We have a keyboard with a good, backlit and quite comfortable tour, without fanfare or surprises. In terms of connectivity we have two USB-C Thunderbolt ports, Bluetooth connection and standard ac WiFi. As for the battery, the firm offers up to 10 hours that we have been far from achieving, about 7 hours without too demanding use, less than 4 hours playing.

Display and multimedia experience

We start with a screen of 14 ″ Full HD, is IPS technology and with touch capacity, This is something that I can't quite understand in laptops because it is as comfortable to use it with your fingers, as it is uncomfortable to be cleaning the traces of a screen where you will be creating and reading information. This display has a brightness of 300 nits that seems low but defends itself more than enough both indoors and outdoors.

At the sound level, we have two stereo speakers located at the bottom of the laptop that provide us with clear sound, powerful and more than enough to consume both music through services like Spotify and movies on Netflix. At this level the reality is that the good screen ratio that this laptop has leaves us a very pleasant experience.

We are definitely facing a laptop that seems expensive for its around € 1.550 taking into account great offers like the ones we see on Amazon (link)However, I have found details in it that do not correspond to the user experience that an ultralight laptop of this price should provide, it definitely costs me to recommend it ahead of the competition at more affordable prices such as the MacBook 12 ″, the MacBook Air the LG Gram and some alternatives from ASUS.

Pros

  • An extremely slim and lightweight design
  • Good autonomy taking into account the competition
  • Ease of use and transport

Cons

  • Some unforgivable design flaw
  • An excessively high price
