Amazon patents stations for drones on trucks, trains and ships

Amazon thinks of mobile stations for its army of drones

That Amazon wants to revolutionize the delivery system of its packages, it is a fact. Who wants to do it through the use of drones, we also knew. However, carrying out all this is not so easy: get permission to fly all the drones in certain areas, see what is the best way to charge the batteries of each unit and, the best: where to store this entire fleet of remotely piloted vehicles.

Well the answer could be in the last patent that since Business Insider They have found. The idea is simple: they want opt for mobile platforms where to store the entire fleet of drones and where to repair them — or load them.

Amazon train with drone maintenance module

According to the latest patent that the online commerce giant has applied for, the idea is to have vehicles everywhere. So that, Amazon's idea is to have drone stations installed on ships, trucks and trains. Likewise, the patent consists of different modules that would be installed in the different vehicles. Within each module there would be spare parts and different recharging stations so that each unit would start a new delivery with its capacity to one hundred percent.

It is also surprising that Amazon has registered a patent for a hive-shaped building, where both drones and road vehicles would participate. Now, as in all these cases, they are just ideas —concepts— that the different companies accumulate at the end of the year in case they come true at some point.

At the end of last year 2016 the first tests of this package delivery system were carried out through the use of drones. But until this is put into practice, different hurdles still have to be overcome. And the main one is autonomy of batteries used by vehicles. Although, for example, this problem does not have the company of air taxis Volocopter.
