Devolo wants to solve one of those household problems that seem minor until you experience them every day: having a high-speed fiber optic connection and still seeing the Wi-Fi drag in the office, the bedroom, or that corner of the living room where you've just happened to put the TV. The German company has unveiled its new devolo WiFi 7 BE6500, an Ethernet router compatible with fiber optic connections that promises wireless speeds of up to 6.500 Mbps. Along with it comes a Mesh WiFi 7 system in packs of two and three units, designed to distribute the signal more stably throughout the house.
What's interesting here isn't just the speed figure, which always looks great on the spec sheet, but what WiFi 7 can actually offer in a real home. We're talking about homes where mobile phones, laptops, game consoles, televisions, security cameras, smart speakers, and even a robot vacuum cleaner that wants its share of the internet all coexist. The new devolo system works with 2,4 GHz, 5 GHz, and 6 GHz bands, allows channels up to 320 MHz, and incorporates technologies such as Multi-Link Operation, 4K-QAM, OFDMA or Band Steering. This translates to greater bandwidth capacity, lower latency, and less of a bottleneck when multiple devices are using the network simultaneously. The BE6500 includes four antennas and four Ethernet ports, with one 2,5 Gbps port that can function as either a WAN or LAN port and three 1 Gbps LAN ports. It can also be used as a fiber optic router, an access point, or as part of a complete mesh network. Installation is also expected to be straightforward, with pre-configured equipment and management via the devolo Home Network app or a web interface. However, it's worth noting that some features, such as VPN, Wi-Fi timer control, parental controls, and whitelisting, will be delivered via an update, so not everything will be available immediately.
In terms of price, the devolo WiFi 7 BE6500 It starts at 149,90 euros, while the two-unit Mesh kit costs 279,90 euros and the three-device kit goes up to 399,90 euros. The standalone extender also comes in at €149,90. It's certainly not an impulse buy, but it can make a lot of sense for large houses, multi-story homes, or users who already have high-speed fiber and too many connected devices.
