Microsoft to launch laptops for $ 189 to compete with Chromebooks

A few years ago, computing and technology found its way into the American educational system. Practically since the launch of the first iPad, many were the educational centers that saw this device as an ideal tool to help students on a daily basis. But over time, the price of them began to get more expensive and Google launched the first laptops with ChromeOS, a very light operating system, which requires very simple features to work and all this at a lower price than the iPad. Over the years, Chromebooks have become the most widely used platform in American schools, but this could change shortly.

Today ChromeOS is the second most used operating system in the United States, behind Windows and ahead of macOS. Microsoft wants to get its head into this lucrative sector by launching laptops for $ 189, laptops with more than enough features to meet the needs of students who currently use Chromebooks. According to Microsoft, schools need more and more power, security and performance, at the same price as Chromebooks, power that these devices do not obtain.

Hence, in an attempt altruistic, the company wants to bring access to the latest technology to as many users as possible, offering Windows 10 PCs to help them learn and achieve more. The same manufacturers that are betting on Chromebook (HP, Lenovo, Acer ...), will also bet on this type of cheap computers for the education sector, computers that will have a maximum cost of $ 189, although we can also find more complete devices for a little over price.

These laptops will be managed by 2 or 4 GB of RAM and will be managed by Celeron processors with expandable storage through the use of microSD cards, a 12-inch screen and some models will also be compatible with optical pens to be able to take notes directly on the device that will also have a rotating screen so that the keyboard is not an annoying when used for this reason.

But the guys at Microsoft also plan launch a platform similar to the one currently offered by Google on its devices intended for the educational environment, a platform that allows you to have at all timesnto controlled the students, reviewing and supervising remotely the work, exams and others that the teaching staff may commission them. This platform called Microsoft Intune for Education, will allow teachers to manage both academic work and devices when installing or managing applications.
