Philips Hue updates syncbox with HDMI 2.1 capabilities

Philips Hue

Signify announces the launch of the new generation of Philips Hue Play HDMI sync box 8k for an immersive gaming, movie and music experience, as well as innovative lighting fixtures and app features that provide new ways to personalize home lighting.

The new Philips Hue Play HDMI sync box syncs your lights to the latest HDMI 2.1 video standard used by major gaming consoles such as PS5 and Xbox One, with resolutions up to 8K and refresh rates up to 120Hz.

The Philips Hue Tento and Datura ceiling light ranges are expanded with square and rectangular designs. New Philips Hue Secure features and automations are also launched, such as compatibility with Alexa and Google Home, as well as advanced Philips Hue lighting features in the app for even greater personalisation.

Philips Hue is extending its collection of effects in the Hue app with four new effects: Cosmos, Underwater, Charm and Sunbeam. For an even richer experience, it is also possible to customize any effect – both existing and new – changing its intensity (eg brightness and speed) and giving color for any occasion.

For users with larger setups, Philips Hue will be updating the Hue app to support integration of multiple connections later this year. Users will be able to add multiple Bridges to a single home, seeing the status of all rooms at a glance and control them with just a switch between connections.

In addition, Philips Hue accessories are getting smarter. New features include the big Do Not Disturb feature, which prevents motion sensors from changing the active scene when motion is detected, as well as starting and stopping presence simulation and timers via Hue switches.
