9 absurd functions that we can find on our smartphone

Samsung

A few years ago, mobile devices only offered us the option of calling or receiving messages and some other function that most users did not use on almost any occasion. Nowadays and with smartphones booming, they offer us a huge number of functions and options, many of which are really interesting and which have become essential in the day-to-day lives of many users.

However, they also offer us a huge number of functions, which are more absurd, which we cannot ignore without criticizing. That is why in this article today we are going to do a peculiar review around 9 absurd functions that we can find on our smartphone.

Before starting to review the most absurd options that we can find in a smartphone, we have to say that we have made a selection, of things that we consider to be absurd, but that we fully understand that many of you may find them interesting and that you may even more than one use. We hope that nobody gets angry and we ask for forgiveness in advance to anyone who may feel annoyed by seeing in this list some of the functions that more than one can use on a daily basis. Breathe easy that although for most they are absurd functions, for you they can be really useful and this does not mean anything.

Fingerprint scanner

Android 6.0

Most smartphones on the market that belong to the so-called high-end incorporate finger scanner and many of those who make their debut in the mid-range also incorporate it. Unfortunately its usefulness is more than reduced And it is that although in a few months it will surely be able to be used to make payments, at the moment it only allows us to unlock our terminal.

Only one company, Huawei, has managed to make the fingerprint scanner more useful. In the Huawei Mate 8 or in the Mate S we can scroll, move through the menus or activate the camera. They are not very interesting functions, but something is something for a function, at the moment quite absurd.

The Augmented Reality of the Xperia

We all know the benefits of augmented reality, which allows us to create realities in the camera's viewfinder, although, however, few companies have managed to successfully exploit this new technology. One of those that has tried has been Sony, which in our opinion has failed.

And is that placing fish or dinosaurs in a photograph is very little, when the options that augmented reality could give us could be endless and surprising.

Curved screens

Samsung

Samsung was the first company to dare to launch a mobile device, the Galaxy Note Edge with a curved screen. It also repeated with the Galaxy S6 edge that it had a huge success in the market. However, the curved screen of both terminals is something that we could say is close to the absurd because of the few options offered to users.

The price of both terminals goes up largely due to this screen with curved edges, which offers us an impeccable aesthetic, but which does not offer us any relevant option. Also, in a personal experience, I think this type of screen makes it difficult to use the smartphone normally and in my case they make me dizzy.

If curved screens offer us interesting options or functions in the future, maybe it can leave this list. At the moment they have to stay on their own merits, or don't you agree?

Beauty mode

I have never understood how there can still be users who make use of the call "Beauty mode", which more than beauty gives our faces a kind of makeup that makes us look like a robot. Each one is as it is and if it is true that when we fix ourselves we can deceive more than one, with the beauty mode we will achieve little.

Most manufacturers include this mode in their cameras, but none have managed to make it a mode that works correctly and the results are between bad or very bad. For your sake, never use the absurd beauty mode.

Voice assistants

Apple Lossless Audio CODEC (ALAC),

You are going to forgive me, because I know that many people will not understand, but For me, voice assistants like Siri, Cortana or Google Now still seem like one of the absurd functions that we can find today on any smartphone. And it is that nobody or almost nobody uses them in a continuous way and in most occasions, between the fact that we understand each other and not the assistant, we have already found what we were looking for or what we wanted.

There is no doubt that voice assistants have been improving very much in recent times, but I think they are still far from being something really useful, at least in my humble opinion.

Face unlock

Currently we can unlock our mobile device in several ways, one of them is through our face. This function was one of the great novelties of Android Jelly Bean, which tried to become popular on Android KitKat and has become part of oblivion, like most things that are absurd with Android Lollipop.

Few users choose this form of unlocking and it is sometimes tedious and above all imprecise. The end result is that it took too long to unlock the device. There is no doubt that in its day it was an interesting option, which was not developed and which has ended up being forgotten. Nobody in their right mind wants to unlock their smartphone every time they need it with their face.

The use of the smartphone with the knuckles or the absurdity squared

Knuckle handling

Some manufacturers seek to differentiate themselves by looking for novel features or options that try to catch the user's attention. Huawei has always been known for offering us interesting news, but on some occasions they have screwed up in an important way and even touched the absurd with their toes.

E.g. They fell into absurdity when they decided to implement the option of being able to handle it with their knuckles in their terminals. It is striking and surprising but using our smartphone with the knuckles, to do things that can be done in a normal way, is at least absurd. Of course, the award for the curious function is taken out on the street, although later it is useless or almost nothing.

Gesture control

If Huawei gave the bell with the use of the smartphone through the knuckles, another of the great manufacturers in the market such as Samsung has not been left behind. And it is that the South Koreans implemented in some of their terminals the possibility to perform different functions using gestures. For example, to take a screenshot in many Galaxy, it is useful to slide your hand across the screen.

Perhaps this is the least absurd option of all that can be seen in this article, but honestly it was not necessary and most of the users who have a Samsung smartphone do not know about this option. We could say that Samsung has not reached the absurd with this function, but it has skirted it in a dangerous way.

Heart rate sensors

Heart rate sensor

Heart rate sensors are increasingly present in smartwatches or smart watches where they make great sense. For example, any user can measure their heart rate while doing sports or in any situation and quickly and easily.

As it makes very little sense to implement a heart sensor in a smartphone where we must place a finger to measure our rhythm. If we go for a run or just walk, it is quite absurd to have a heart rate sensor on our mobile device, right?

Opinion freely

Smartphones have evolved very much in recent times, but manufacturers increasingly seek to distinguish themselves from each other by implementing functions or options in their terminals that make them the star of the market, based on differentiation. The problem with all this is that in the end it ends up falling into absurdity because it is not always easy to innovate and do it correctly.

Controlling your smartphone with your knuckles or implementing a curved screen can be something interesting, but unfortunately it has not finished convincing anyone, so it has ended up in the bag of absurd functions. Undoubtedly, many other absurd functions have managed to triumph in the market and the boundary between the original, the useful and the absurd is extremely thin.

At this point and now that I have told you about all the most absurd functions of a smartphone, I would like to know if you value in a positive way some of these functions and above all that you tell us about some other functions that you consider absurd and that we can find ourselves in the mobile devices that are currently sold in the market. You can tell them in the space reserved for comments on this post or on any of the social networks in which we are present.

The truth is, the person who edited this article does not deserve to be on a page like this «actualidad gadget» wow what or is this a joke? criticize innovation, current affairs in that way no... more comments I thought it was a very serious page not a place more destructive criticism like there are many cynical and hypocritical ones with the sole purpose of discrediting what is new and unique...

I completely disagree with you, gentlemen. Actualidad Gadget.
    Excellent your article.
Not because you have this or that smartphone means that all its functions are useful. These they name are pretty useless.

Well, they are not useless, to be said yes. I, I have the fingerprint reader, which I use for many things, also the curved screen, that the truth when you adapt is manageable and functional (not useless), I also have voice control that in some uncomfortable moments helps us to perform Some task, also the beauty mode that when using it, I don't look like a robot (if you know how to handle it of course), I don't have augmented reality, but hey more or less I get closer, I also have the sensors that, to tell the truth, are super practical, and my comment is here.
In conclusion, both say that things are useless, try it and also and then say.

I use the heart rate sensor because I suffer from blood pressure spikes and it helps me to take care of my health since there are very precise sensors (this is the case of Cardio).
For this reason, the use of this type of application does not seem absurd to me.

I agree with the article except for one thing, capture the screen by sweeping the screen with the edge of the hand. Currently for me it is a very used tool.

For this world to be a world there must be (and always have been) all kinds of things and people, including the inquisitors. Short-sighted people, clinging to things "the way they've always been." People who do not value the innovation and gradual development of science. Characters like the columnist, had they been a majority throughout history, would still have us fishing for dinner wrapped in a sheepskin.

The usefulness of the functions of a smartphone depends on the usage habits of the users.
    1. If the fingerprint scanner is accurate, it allows a single user to unlock the phone quickly. The problem is that it is usually imprecise and to prevent the phone from being locked there is always a security unlock by another more precise and equally fast method (pattern, password, etc.). The idea is good and allows you to show off your mobile, but it lacks development.
    2. Augmented reality. Mobile phones are used to a large extent for leisure and therefore the graphic effects that allow making photomontages or virtualizing impossible realities usually attract the attention of users. I understand that augmented reality may have very useful future applications, but I do not see useless that it is introduced through entertainment. A video game is not practical either, but no one would say that it is useless.
    3. Curved screens. The first thing someone thinks when they see a mobile and it is turned off is whether or not they like the design. Appel has always sold design, and above all social status. The logical thing is that manufacturers try to make their devices the most beautiful, flashy and futuristic, and if they manage to give the feeling that their spectacular design is a mark of social status, they have hit the nail on the head. People are willing to pay 10 times more money for an item depending on its design, even if it has the same features as another. For all this it seems to me a very simplistic view to say that it is useless.
    4. Beauty mode. Beauty is subjective. There are countless ways that we can select in our terminal so that an image is modified automatically. The result will depend on many factors such as the existing light, its direction, the focus, etc. Surely someone knows how to take advantage of this mode at a certain time, so it does not seem a bad idea to implement it in the devices.
    5. Voice assistants. Who has never been on vacation or working in another city, loaded with suitcases or bags. In these circumstances (and sitting on the couch as well) it is very easy to tell the phone to open the GPS app and then tell it the address so that it can find it within 2 seconds. Speech recognition has improved so much that it is sometimes more accurate than typing (a good example is this forum, since typing with the mobile keyboard is easy to make mistakes).
    6. Face unlock. I do not know if it will be developed sufficiently, since I have not had the privilege of trying it, but the truth is that to show off a mobile it should be priceless. Let's visualize it, we are with a group of friends, we take out the locked mobile, we look at the screen and it unlocks itself. Our friends ask us, don't you block it, and if it is stolen? You answer, it was blocked, I have facial recognition activated. For that moment alone it is worth the application.
    7. Use of the mobile with the knuckles. I think that to understand this function you need to use it or see a demo. This function allows the phone to distinguish the use of finger and knuckle lines, in this way you can open a screen copy application (very useful, since it allows you to select an area of it to cut) without having to search the application. It seems extremely useful, or as the author of the article would say, useful squared.
    8. Gesture control. How many times have we searched for an application for more than a minute without finding it. Gesture control allows the device to interpret actions performed with the hand, eyes, face, to save time. Take a screenshot by passing your hand over the mobile, lock the screen when we are not looking, move the scroll with your eyes, etc. To take advantage of these functions you have to get used to using them, and then we will no longer be able to live without them.
    9. Heart rate sensors. I will only say one thing, who has not ever wondered how he has a pulse without having to be running? Perhaps it is more useful in a smartwatch, because you take it for a run, but it is still interesting and you can use it after an effort.

Without a doubt an article that gives a lot to talk about, for better or for worse. I guess you have to get them to talk about you even if it's bad.

    A greeting.
