Amazon Kindle with integrated light, it seemed impossible to improve the Kindle [ANALYSIS]

When a product is so good that despite its excessive simplicity it persists over the years, one thinks that perhaps the most convenient thing is to apply the maxim of: If it works, do not touch it. But Amazon is a risky company and he doesn't like to stare.

Jeff Bezos' firm has updated the basic Amazon Kindle to add integrated light, improving a product that seemed perfect for its characteristics. We have in our hands and for the first time the Amazon Kindle with integrated light, stay with us and discover how it is in our detailed analysis.

Amazon has among its range of products an "affordable" Kindle, that is, the most basic model that is still more than enough and plenty for ordinary mortals, which is why it is among one of the most sold from the North American firm, and we don't blame you. We bring you the Kindle with integrated light just launched this April 10 so you can see in great detail if it is certainly worth the investment, although we can already tell you that it has left us a very good taste in our mouths, check it out a look at No products found. from € 89,99 although we recommend that you stay alert to future offers.

Design and materials: The good if simple, twice as good

We find a device made of polycarbonate, a lifelong plastic, this gives it a plus of resistance and lightness that we cannot find in other similar devices, although for some users the feeling is "little premium". We must not forget that what we have at hand is an electronic book. We have a weight of just 174 grams for a six-inch panel and exact dimensions of 160 x 113 x 8,7 millimeters, It is thin, with a good screen aspect and fits comfortably in the hand, we can read using only one of them.

  • Weight: 174 grams
  • Size: 160 x 113 x 8,7 mm

It has been released in two colors: Black and White. Nowhere are we going to find buttons, since it only has one at the bottom, next to the microUSB connector (why not USB-C in full 2019?) That will be used to charge it. This button will basically be the locking system that will put the screen in stand-by, as well as to turn it off completely, for the rest we will have to navigate by touch with the screen. Its slightly accentuated frames are more than enough to rest the fingers of the hand and not interfere with the reading surface, this is much appreciated.

Technical characteristics: More than enough to read without limits

As we have said, we have a screen of six inches of electronic ink, This will allow us not to suffer reflexes literally under any condition, it is the closest possible to reading a traditional book. Even when we make use of your 4-LED front lighting we are going to be able to enjoy this technology that will keep our eyes healthy and above all it will not tire us out whether we spend the hours we spend in front of it, a true delight.

  • Display: 6 inches with 167 DPI resolution
  • Integrated dimmable 4-LED light
  • Storage: 4 GB
  • WiFi

NOTE: In theory it has Bluetooth and so specified in the user guide, however, it seems not to be activated in Spain yet.

Screen resolution is 167 pixels per inch, we would say that it is insufficient or almost pathetic if we did not take into account that it is an electronic book, for which it is enough or more than enough. The storage capacity is 4 GB that will not be expandable by microSD card or any type of external storage. Putting in a few books we have realized that we will have approximately 3 GB of storage once we deduct the Operating System from the memory. Perhaps it is a point to take into account if we store many books, something that seems unnecessary considering that thanks to its WiFi connection we will always have them available in our Amazon library.

Front light and user interface

Amazon knows how to conquer us with the Operating System, an example is the Fire TV range. We have an easy-to-use touch interface, quite intuitive, the lag between the invocation of a movement and how long it takes to appear on the screen is quite noticeable, but it is common in electronic ink. We have quick access to the library, a stable WiFi connection and the ability to buy books directly through Amazon, for that we only have to configure it as indicated in the video that accompanies this analysis.

We can underline the text, search for words and definitions, translate some that we do not know in other languages and even adjust the size of the text, for this we only have to invoke the kind of control center, that is, we are not going to leave the page we were reading, however, the automatic bookmarking system will remind us of the page we were on without too many complications. The front light is adjustable in brightness, quite intuitively and precisely, which makes it possible to read at night in bed or in dark environments such as planes and trains without the absolute need to disturb anyone with external lighting, that is simply fantastic. In addition, the use of this light does not strain the eyes at all according to my tests.

Also, how could it be otherwise, Amazon offers a huge amount of covers and accessories for our Amazon Kindle directly this link.

Autonomy and editor's opinion

Amazon promises us about 4 weeks, taking as a reference a reading habit of half an hour a day with the wireless connection disconnected and the light brightness set to level 13. In a standard use consisting of the WiFi connection activated, an average reading of just over an hour and the brightness at maximum power we have managed to achieve two weeks of use with a single charge, therefore, the autonomy (it is fully charged in approximately three hours with a 5V 2A charger) is more than enough to read without becoming a problem. Also, if we are away from home and we want to extend it we can simply reduce the brightness and remove the WiFi to stop the drain.

Pros

  • It is comfortable, light and resistant
  • The lighting is perfect and does not tire your eyes
  • Amazon often launches offers that lower the price
  • The Operating System is great to read without limits

Cons

  • Use microUSB cable instead of USB-C in 2019
  • Does not include power adapter
  • You have to get familiar with the user interface

It seemed like a luxury renovation for the Amazon Kindle, which taking into account its price and that it was not updated since 2016 I have no choice but to recommend this No products found. ahead of the traditional version without light that is around ten euros less. In addition, Amazon will surely end up launching offers that make this device very succulent in recent days, so stay tuned.
