Jeff Bezos' company continues to democratize and reign in the smart TV sector, thus constantly updating its catalog of entertainment products. Here we have analyzed all the variants of the economic Amazon Fire Stick TV and of course the presumptuous Amazon Fire TV Cube.
Amazon's new Alexa voice remote (3rd Gen) has been released with slight design changes and we tested it thoroughly. Learn with us what the changes to the new Amazon remote consist of and how you can improve your experience with the Fire TV thanks to this small but interesting accessory.
The renovation and many buttons
Both in weight and dimensions the command remains almost impassive, Despite this, it has been reduced by a centimeter in length, before we had 15,1 cm in the traditional control while the new control remains at 14,2 centimeters in length. The width remains the same at 3,8 centimeters in total, and the thickness is slightly reduced from 1,7 centimeters to 1,6 centimeters. The new command is now available on Amazon at a price of 29,99 euros.
We start with the upper part, where the arrangement of the power button, the hole for the microphone and the status indicator LED is maintained. It does change the button to invoke Alexa, which although it maintains proportions is now blue and includes the logo of the Amazon virtual assistant, different from the image of the microphone that it showed so far.
We continue with the button control pad and directions, where we don't find any change. The same happens with the next two lines of multimedia control, finding from left to right and from top to bottom the following: Backspace / Back; Start; Settings; Rewind; Play / Pause; Move along.
Yes, two buttons are added to the side and side of the volume control. On the left a «mute» button is incorporated to quickly silence the content, and on the right a guide button will appear, very useful for viewing the content in Movistar + or the information about what we are playing.
The four most notable additions are for the lower part, where we discover dedicated, colorful buttons and with a considerable size for Quickly access: Amazon Prime Video, Netflix, Disney + and Amazon Music respectively. These buttons are not at all configurable at the moment.
How could it be otherwise, the new third generation voice control command launched this year 2021 is compatible with the vast majority of products running Amazon's Fire TV: Fire TV Stick Lite, Fire TV Stick (2nd generation and later), Fire TV Stick 4K, Fire TV Cube (1st generation and later), and Amazon Fire TV (3rd generation. Unfortunately, it does not support the first and second generation of the traditional Fire TV, nor the first generation of the Fire TV Stick.
It maintains high compatibility with televisions and sound bars. As has been happening so far, one of the greatest attractions of its update is precisely that we can dispense with the native control of the television to manage it and thus avoid having controllers everywhere.
The remote works with two AAA batteries, which are included in the package. The connectivity, in addition to the infrared system that it runs so far, is based on a version of Bluetooth that we do not know at the moment. Regarding autonomy, Amazon has not given a certain date of the battery life either, but this will depend a lot on the use we have given it. If it serves as an example, I have been using an Amazon Fire Stick TV since its launch in Spain and for the moment the batteries are still the originals.
The command, Despite its renovations at the design level, it has not received any price increase, we are at 29,99 euros, which is exactly what the command of the previous generation costs. Of course, it costs only 10 euros less than the Fire TV Stick, which includes the remote, a difficult decision although you will save a few euros if you've only lost or broken the remote. It is now fully available on Amazon.
