Monitor AOC Gaming U28G2AE / BK

Monitors have become an essential element for gamers and those who telecommute, even if your PC is a laptop, nothing like a good screen to accompany your best gaming moments, and AOC Gaming knows a lot about that. Therefore, today we bring you a new monitor with which you can get the most out of your games.

We reviewed the AOC Gaming U28G2AE / BK monitor, a frameless monitor with Freesync and mind-blowing resolution. Do not miss this in-depth analysis in which we tell you all the strengths and of course the weaknesses of this monitor designed for those who play the most

Materials and design

This AOC Gaming U28G2AE / BK It has a classic aggressive and gaming but refined design, to begin with we have ultra-reduced frames on three of its sides, we are obviously talking about the upper part and the sides, in the lower part we have the company's banner and two guides in red. Obviously and how could it be otherwise, we have a base with two large projections and it is entirely designed in black. We have a screen size of 28 inches or what is better said 71,12 centimeters in total.

We have a textured bezel, an easy-to-install stand and of course VESA certification. 100 × 100 in case we want to hang it on the wall, something I recommend. All with the classic Kensington Lock. We have a vertical mobility of between -5º and + 23º, yes, we do not move it laterally. Obviously, the product is accompanied by its "gaming" theme so marked, and the system for easy positioning of the support is greatly appreciated by means of a click system on the back. That rear is where both the connection ports and the power supply are located, as well as in the lower bezel we have the touch menu controls.

Technical characteristics

We go directly to the raw data. This 28-inch monitor features a IPS LCD panel which guarantees us a wide angle of vision, almost total according to our tests we have not been able to appreciate any type of aberration. It has an anti-glare coating which is highly appreciated and defends well against artificial lighting. The appearance of the panel is 16: 9, ideal for playing and its backlighting is through the WLED system, which helps to better control dark areas.

For its part, we have a maximum brightness of 300 nits that makes us foreshadow the obvious, we lack HDR support, something that in any case would slow down the response rate of the panel, which is 1 millisecond (GtoG). The same thing happens with the refresh rate, which for the most demanding gamers it only stays at 60Hz and yes we would have appreciated something more. As for the colors, we have a dynamic contrast of eight million to one and a static one of one thousand to one, all accompanied by AMD Freesync technology to improve gaming performance.

How could it be otherwise, we have 85% of the NTSC standard and the 119% of the sRGB standard so it is also suitable for editing over it, something we have done and where it has been widely defended. The digital frequency signal reaches through HDMI 2.0 or DisplayPort 1.2 a fixed rate of 60Hz at 4K or UHD resolution. It goes without saying that to minimize fatigue we have a Flicker-Free and Low Blue Light system, with this I insist, this monitor is more than a simple gaming monitor, it accompanies good hours of use in other performances such as work, multimedia consumption and of course office automation.

Connectivity and accessories

This monitor has two HDMI 2.0 ports on its back, which will allow us to connect simultaneously, for example, our PC and also our console. The device that we start will automatically invoke the monitor and will know which HDMI port to start automatically, that from my point of view is essential in a gaming monitor. Of course, we missed having included a small USB HUB or a USB-C port that would allow us to connect our peripherals directly to the monitor, this would have saved us some space on the table. If you liked it, you can buy it HERE at the best price.

  • AOC Shadow Control and AOC Game Color: These AOC software add-ons fine-tune display lighting and brightness, offering an experience very close to certified HDR, turning off specific parts of the panel that are not being used in order to deliver purer blacks.

Needless to say, we also have one Display Port 1.2 port and a 3,5-millimeter hybrid headphone output. For its part, we must not forget that this AOC U28G2AE / BK It has two speakers, so we can enjoy stereo sound, being 3W of power each one. Although it is enough to get us out of the way and carry out multimedia consumption, it does not have pronounced bass, despite the fact that the experience is relatively good considering the compactness of the monitor and these same speakers. It is a detail to include this type of support speakers, especially when many other monitors in the same range do not include them.

Game Modes and AOC G-Menu

The monitor has six predefined game modes: FPS, RTS or racing, however, via AOC Settings KeyPad (the lower bezel menu) we can adjust the profiles, save new ones and even modify existing ones. I always recommend that you use this menu, whose interface has been quite intuitive for us, to adjust it properly and to your liking.

In addition, the AOC G-Menu It is an added application that we can install in Windows and that allows us to customize our monitors with specific characteristics as well as certain parameters, yes, at the moment we have not found more than a friendly user interface, but the same functions or similar to those of the menu.

Editor's opinion

This AOC U28G2AE / BK It is a good and versatile alternative as a gaming monitor, it has a size, an input lag and a very good connectivity, accompanied by a sufficiently bright IPS panel and a quality design. We miss perhaps the HDR or the higher refresh rate, but within its range its characteristics can be expected, where almost nothing is missing. You can buy it on Amazon from 323,90 euros, at the best price and with delivery in just one day.
