Apple tries again with digital magazines

The iOS Kiosk app was a vague attempt by Apple to be able to offer a service of digital magazines to the main media, but as the years went by, we saw how the available offer, both inside and outside the United States, was very poor, since very few publishers showed interest in this service.

The Kiosko application stopped being available on iOS a few years ago. Instead Apple launched News, a news service, similar to Flipboard but not offering the same as kiosk. The Cupertino boys seem to they want to try again and for this they have bought the Texture company, Spotify or Netflix from the magazines.

Texture is a monthly subscription service that is priced at $ 9,99 per month and that gives us access to more than 200 magazines, magazines of all kinds and where the main publishers such as Hearst Meredith, News Corp, Time, Rogers or Condé Nast offer their publications. But this is not the first attempt by the company, since three years ago, it bought BookLamp, a company that offered recommendations based on our tastes, a service that it has not finished implementing in other applications.

As usual, We do not know what Apple's future plans are after the acquisition of this company and it is more than likely that we will never know, although considering the News application and the company's past attempts in the field of magazines, with the Kiosko application, it is likely to launch a joint News and Magazines service where publishers may include advertising. If you look at the success of Apple's news service, Apple may want to change the business model to one that is more interesting for publishers and more lucrative for the company.
