Electronic books (e-readers) are more than invented. We have analyzed a multitude of them right here, and they all have a common denominator: They are quite closed systems. That is precisely the idiosyncrasy with which BOOX wants to end, a firm specialized in electronic ink products that we have been analyzing for some time.
We analyze the BOOX Go Color 7, a color e-book that does much more than show us the content, we can interact with it easily.
As on many other occasions, we have accompanied this article with a video in which you can find both the unboxing, the configuration and the most relevant aspects of this BOOX Go Color 7.
Materials and design
It seems as if this e-reader wanted to escape from pre-established aesthetics, focusing solely and exclusively on ergonomics. We are not going to go too deep into the unboxing, we will limit ourselves to saying that the product box contains, in addition to the Go Color 7, a cable USB-A / USB-C and an extractor key for the microSD tray.
Apart from this, we have an extremely light product, made entirely of matte black plastic. It has dimensions of 156 x 137 x 6,4 millimeters, for a total weight of only 195 grams, very well distributed.
- It can be purchased in both black and white.
- Splash resistant.
The top and left side of the book (although it has various grip options) are completely clean. The USB-C port, the microphone and also the speaker remain on the right side. Finally, at the bottom we have the power button.
In addition, our unit also includes its premium magnetic case, in this case black, made of biodegradable materials and with an automatic locking function, an in-dis-pen-sa-ble accessory.
On the side of the screen, in the largest bezel, designed for the side grip of the e-Reader, we find a interactive keypad which we will talk about later.
I like, quite a bit, that they have avoided flashy aesthetics, the back is completely rough, prioritizing grip and comfort above all things, and that does it extremely well.
Technical characteristics
Let's now focus on what is not seen, its technical characteristics at the hardware level, just before focusing on everything it is capable of doing thanks to its screen.
In this sense, this BOOX Go Color 7 equips an eight-core processor with a maximum clock speed of 2,4GHz, although we do not know the manufacturer. Of course, it comes accompanied by 4GB of RAM (LPDDR4X) more than enough to move so much the Operating System (Android 12) as its main functionalities and applications.
As to storage, equipped with 64GB (UFS 2.2), although it is capable of increasing its storage thanks to the microSD card slot on the right side.
In this sense, at the connectivity level we will be able to use networks 2,4GHz and 5GHz WiFi, so we will not have problems in this sense. Just in case, since we have a multitude of operating options, it has Bluetooth 5.0, an integrated microphone and a speaker, have you seen an e-Reader with so many hardware elements? I, who have been analyzing them for decades, already tell you that there are few. Alternatively, for automatic rotation detection, it also has a gyroscope.
Screen and use, the most important thing
Let's now focus on what is important about an e-Reader, we are obviously talking about its screen.
We have a panel of seven inches (Kaleido 3) capable of offering us 4.096 different colors in electronic ink. The black and white resolution of 1.680 x 1264 pixels, this will give us 300 pixels per inch, while in color we reach up to 1240 x 930 pixels, that is, 150 pixels per inch.
This screen, despite the side interactive button panel, is completely touch-sensitive. In addition, it has a system of front lighting with CTM which allows us to adjust not only the brightness, but also the tone (from cold to warm) of the panel.
The panel shines for its precision and resolution, despite the fact that the colors do not accompany us much throughout the Operating System. The important thing, in these cases, is undoubtedly the compatibility with the different formats, and this is all it offers:
- Documents and books: PDF, CAJ, DJVU, CBR, CBZ, EPUB, AZW3, MOBI, TXT, DOC, DOCX, FB2, CHM, RTF, HTML, ZIP, PRC, PPT, PPTX, EPUB3
- Image: PNG, JPG, BMP, TIFF
- Audio: WAV, MP3
Let us also not forget that we can install applications from third-party developers, since the BOOX Go Color 7 has the Google Play Store, that is, access to the possibility of downloading any book store from different providers. This gives us access from Google Books to Kobo and Kindle, Finally, an e-Reader is capable of bringing together your entire library, without having to tie yourself to any specific provider, and everything completely legal.
Obviously, despite all of the above, we have access to our own digitized library through the file manager, all with astonishing ease, since we can use either the direct connection via USB-C, as the most integrated BOOXDrop, which can be downloaded completely free for iOS and Android. For me, I've been using OneDrive and other cloud tools.
- Battery 2.300 mAh
As we have said, it is not a simple e-book, it does much more. In this sense, we can enjoy audiobooks both through its speaker and through the Bluetooth connection if we prefer wireless audio. Continuing with this, We can download Spotify and listen to our favorite music while we read.
Editor's Opinion
The time has come to talk about the price, and this is Go Color 7 It's not exactly cheap, catapulting up to €279,99 on Amazon and other usual points of sale. We are not talking about a low-cost e-Reader, nor a traditional e-Reader. It is a tool, mainly for reading electronic books, that allows us to access the complete experience without having to give up absolutely anything, since they have not dispensed with connectivity, multimedia capabilities, or any other element that could make you turn to the competition. Without a doubt, if you are looking for a relatively "Premium" e-Reader, this may be one of the most attractive options you will find on the market.
If you have any questions about this product, we remind you that the comment box is free to use, and we are always willing to lend a hand.
