Boston Dynamics surprises us with its new robotic mascot

Boston Dynamics

By now you will surely know, especially if you are a lover of the world of robotics and you like to keep up to date with all the great news that appear practically every week related to this field, what type of company it is. Boston Dynamics, which was acquired at the time, due to the technology and advances that were being achieved in the world of robotics, no less than by Google, which, when the time came and after verifying that it was not all that beneficial in terms economic that they expected, at least that is what was commented at the time, he decided to sell it. In this unfortunate way, or at least it seemed to me at the time, it's like Boston Dynamics passes to SoftBank.

It is precisely thanks to this unexpected movement that, on the other hand, Boston Dynamics receives the necessary funds to continue with its research and developments, something that without a doubt we should all be grateful since its projects are usually far ahead, in technological terms, from the rest of the competition. If you do a quick search for Boston Dynamics on the web, surely, even though its name may not sound like anything to you, its robots do, especially its kind of four legged animals since his tremendous skill and balance have traveled all kinds of technology pages and even social networks. On this occasion and after several months in which we had not known any news, they return to the charge to present their latest project in society, which has been baptized as SpotMini.

Boston Dynamics, after months without giving a single news, tells us about SpotMini, a kind of robot dog whose abilities will surely surprise you

As Boston Dynamics defines this project, we would be facing a kind of robot dog that is nothing other than the pet of its largest model, which they themselves call BigDog. The truth is that by no means one robot can be another's pet, although it perfectly serves to demonstrate that, at this point, they have the necessary technology at their disposal to start manufacturing robots of a much smaller size, although with the same and even more skills.

One of the most interesting parts of the new generation of SpotMini, remember that a few months ago they presented a first model that had been equipped with a kind of autonomous robotic arm as head (the truth is that it was a bit strange), is that the robot is much more agile in terms of movements. In addition to this, according to Boston Dynamics itself, the robot now has cameras and lights in that area that could well be called the head.

To know all the curiosities of a project like the one that gives life to SpotMini we will have to wait for its official presentation

Another point that draws quite the attention of this project is found on an aesthetic level, and that in turn breaks with all those designs'Nudity'For which Boston Dynamics had always bet, I still remember all those robots dressed in black plastic and metals that were completely exposed. In the specific case of SpotMini, we are faced with a body that, as you can see in the images or in the video that I have left you right at the beginning of the extended post, receives a kind of yellow casing that hides all its insides and that offers a much friendlier perspective of the robot, at least with the naked eye.

At the moment little or nothing else is known about this robot except for the few details that its creators have seen fit to reveal and that serve, according to themselves, as an appetizer to a presentation that will take place in the next few days, at which time the directors of Boston Dynamics will do well reveal all its characteristics and more technical specifications.
