By now we are very used to the fact that every time we talk about a new processor that hits the market with noteworthy features, we in turn talk about practically two different manufacturers, Qualcomm and MediaTek. This could change very soon but not in the short term since more and more companies, such as Samsung and its Exynos, Apple with AX or Huawei with the Kirin processor, are encouraged to create their own processors. Along these lines, today I want us to talk about the work developed in this field by Xiaomi that finally wanted to comment on certain types of Pinecone.
For several months it was known that Xiaomi was working internally on a processor of its own development, it is now when finally and after closing in band before the possibility of commenting on some type of detail, the company tells us about which from now on will be known like Pinecone, a new adventure with which the company wants, once and for all, not to have to depend on other manufacturers, something that is undoubtedly endorsed by the problems that all manufacturers are having when it comes to wanting to integrate the Snapdragon 835 in their devices since, as mentioned, the initial production is intended exclusively for the new Samsung Galaxy S8.
Pinecone V670 and V970, two very different versions of the same processor.
At the moment there is very little data that is known about this new processor, among them, it should be noted that, apparently, there will be two versions of Pinecone, one for mid-range phones and another for the highest range. With this in mind, it is much easier to understand that Xiaomi talks about the Pinecone V670, an 8-core processor manufactured using a 28 nm process composed of 4 high-power Cortex-A53s and 5 moderate-power Cortex-A53s that will be accompanied by a Mali-T860 800 MHz GPU.
Second is the Pinecone V970, a powerful processor that will be manufactured in a 10-nanometer process and that will stand out for offering very similar specifications to those of the Qualcomm Snapdragon 835. Going into a little more detail, tell you that we are talking about an 8-core processor, 4 Cortex-A73 a 2,7 GHz and 4 Cortex-A53 at 2GHz supported by a Mali GPU at 900 MHz.
