You noticed that your Google Chromecast is slow, especially when browsing the application menu or opening and playing movies or series. Let us tell you that you are not alone. This problem is common and can be caused by several reasons. We show you what they are and indicate a series of steps and settings that you can adjust to improve the performance of your Chromecast.
Check storage and RAM
The main shortcoming of devices like the Google Chromecast lies in its limited storage and RAM memory. These devices have a maximum of 2 GB of RAM and up to 8 GB of storage, of which about 5 GB are occupied by the operating system and pre-installed applications. Therefore, it is best to optimize these resources. How? Deleting applications that you do not use and cleaning storage and cache.
If Chromecast is slow, delete apps you don't use
Go to Settings > Apps. Choose the apps that haven't used it in more than a month and uninstall it to free up space and reduce the load on RAM.
Clear storage and cache data
Go to Settings > System > Storage. You will be able to see how much space is occupied and how much is available. If the available space is less than 500 MB, we recommend freeing up space clearing storage and cache data.
Optimize your account settings if Chromecast is slow
It is recommended not to have more than two access accounts on your chromecast to reduce the load on the system and improve its performance. Another thing you can do is disable the Play trailers automatically option to prevent the device from processing unnecessary content.
You can also enable Apps Only Mode to eliminate recommendations and other distractions for faster browsing. To do this, go to Settings > Access Accounts. Select your account and activate Apps Only Mode.
Privacy and security settings
Turn off location in Settings > Privacy > Location Status, as this may reduce the load on your system.
Animation and developer settings
Reducing or disabling animations can make Chromecast less slow.
- Activate developer options by going to Configuration > System > About y pressing Build seven times.
- In Developer Options, set the Window animation scale, Transition-Animation Scale, and Animator Duration at 0.5 or disable them.
Limit background processes
Reducing the number of background processes can free up memory and improve performance.
- Enter at Developer Options.
- Set the Background Process Limit to Maximum 1 process.
- Activate the option Delete activities to automatically close applications you do not use.
Restart your Chromecast regularly so it doesn't slow down
Reboot your device at least once every 15 days can help free cache and that Chromecast is not slow. You can do this from Settings > System > Restart.
