Many of the electronic devices we use require an internet connection via WiFi. On this list is the Chromecast. We can use this device to watch various types of content from our TV. But, our plans to install Chromecast can be complicated or frustrated if for some reason we are without stable WiFi at home.
When you are faced with situations where you want to use your Chromecast without an available Wi-Fi network, you can try some of the methods presented here. We show you what they are and how to apply each of them.
Methods to use Chromecast without WiFi
Using the Chromecast on your TV requires that it be connected to the internet, that is something that cannot be discussed. Normally, what we tend to do is connect it to our home WiFi network. But what happens if we can't do it because we don't have WiFi internet at that time? Well, here we show you two ways to install Chromecast without WiFi at home.
With mobile hotspot
The first option we suggest is to use your mobile phone as a WiFi access point to connect the Chromecast. Here we explain the steps:
Set up the access point in this way:
- On your mobile phone, go to Settings and select Network & Internet.
- Click on Wi-Fi Hotspot/Tethering and activate the Portable Wi-Fi Hotspot or Mobile Hotspot.
- Now it's time to configure the name and password of the access point.
At connect Chromecast to access point, do this:
- Plug the Chromecast into your TV and connect it to power.
- Open the Google Home app on another mobile device.
- Follow the on-screen instructions to set up your Chromecast and connect it to the mobile hotspot you created.
How does cast content to Chromecast? Do it like this:
First open a Chromecast-compatible app on the device connected to the hotspot.
Then click on the Cast icon and select your Chromecast.
Connect through a portable router
Option number 2 is to connect your Chromecast through a portable router or a MiFi. You can use any of them to connect the Chromecast. This method is similar to using a mobile hotspot that we explained to you in the previous paragraphs, with the difference that it is a specific device for this task.
When configuring the portable router, follow the steps below:
- Turn on your portable router and see if it is transmitting a WiFi signal.
- setup network name and password according to the manufacturer's instructions.
To connect the Chromecast to the portable router, what you need to do is plug the Chromecast into your TV and connect it to power. Then proceed to open the Google Home app on your mobile device. After that, follow the on-screen instructions to set up the Chromecast and then connect it to the portable router's Wi-Fi network.
To send content or content, do the same as we explained in the previous section.
