Coinbase blocks WikiLeaks account

Coinbase

Major new setback for WikiLeaks. Since the account they have in Coibase has been blocked. A decision that represents a huge problem for the financing of the website. And that can bring quite a few problems for the platform. The reason for blocking and closing the account is because the company has to comply with the United States regulation.

As the Treasury Department in the United States asks that no company have financial business with WikiLeaks. Since the last one has been dedicated to filtering a lot of sensitive information, both from the government and from embassies. So Coinbase has complied with the new regulation.

As expected, once this lockdown has been made official, Julian Assange has called on social media for users to boycott Coinbase. A request that does not seem to have the slightest effect. But that highlights the great problem for the platform.

Even if, blocking the WikiLeaks account does not mean that they stop accepting or using Bitcoin. You can continue to use the cryptocurrency in transfers on the platform anonymously. The problem is, Coinbase was a great help in simplifying this process.

This is one more problem for WikiLeaks, which has been testing all kinds of solutions for years to be able to maintain itself and finance itself. Although not all are working equally well. The arrival of cryptocurrencies has been an opportunity for them, which seems to be serving them so far. In fact, Assange rumored to have a large amount of Bitcoin, so much that he could be a millionaire.

Therefore, cryptocurrencies have been their main source of income in recent times. But, if Assange changes these Bitcoins into money, he goes into government regulation, just what he wants to avoid. We will see if WikiLeaks announces another way of financing after this Coinbase blockade.
