Daisy: Apple's new robot that destroys iPhones

Daisy Robot Apple

A couple of years ago Apple introduced a robot named Liam, whose job it was to disassemble iPhones more efficiently. This way, the parts that were still in good condition could be recovered and reused. Now, the firm introduces a new robot, just in time for Earth Day. It is about Daisy, a robot whose task is to destroy iPhones.

This robot disposes of and recycles iPhones in the most efficient way, much more than Liam. They say it is capable of disassembling and separating parts of about 200 phones per hour. Again, the most valuable parts are reused in a phone.

Thus, thanks to Daisy, Apple wants to recycle in a better way in its production. Thus, they avoid destroying components that are valuable that can be used again in other products. The main task of the robot will be to distinguish between these good and bad components.

Although it does it perfectly and in a more efficient way than the previous robot. So not only is Daisy faster, but there is also a lower error rate. So the amount of good components that are not used is negligible in this case.

Apple has presented this robot for Earth Day. The company seeks to educate consumers about the importance of recycling and protecting the planet. For this reason, they have also organized an action coinciding with Daisy's presentation.

Until April 30, for each device that customers return to be exchanged for another or recycled, they will make a donation. Specifically, it will be donated to Conservation International. It is an NGO in Arlington, Virginia (United States) that is dedicated to protecting nature, a stable climate, clean water and food sources.
