IKEA SYMFONISK speaker frame, better sound and more design [Review]

IKEA, As you may well know because we have brought here some analysis of this type of device, it has been working for a long time as Sonos, a North American firm specializing in intelligent and wireless sound. In this way, Swedes and North Americans have created a new product that combines the best of IKEA and the best of technology. premium de Are S.

We analyze the SYMFONISK speaker frame from IKEA in its collaboration with Sonos, a great leap in sound quality and power, brand of the house. Discover with us the in-depth analysis of this device that is capturing so many looks.

As almost always, we accompany this in-depth analysis with a video from our channel of YouTube, in it you will be able to appreciate first the complete unboxing as well as the configuration process, which, as always happens with Sonos devices, is quite simple. Materials and design: More IKEA than Sonos

A first look at unboxing and we realize that IKEA has designed a bag almost exclusively for this device, no wonder, its box is huge. Despite what we might expect, at least the packaging shows that Sonos has done its thing and the experience is like that of the rest of its products. Once outside, we already have in our hands a loudspeaker that surprises us with its thinness and its effective size: 41 x 57 x 6 centimeters. The cable is generous and that is appreciated, 3,5 meters in total so that we do not have connection problems, in addition, it is made of braided nylon.

Obviously it is also somewhat heavy, and A box with various accessories is added so that we can place it, with a silicone foot, a nylon handle or directly we can put it on the wall as if it were a painting. We can buy it in two versions, one in white / gray and the other in black / gray, both with the same design in terms of the front panel, but with the colors reversed. As for hanging it on the wall, we must ensure its stability, because the sound power is such that perhaps we could have a dislike.

We focus on the panels, and this is quite interesting. Through some rear perforations we can press to eject the fabric and we directly access the speakers of this SYMFONISK. For now, IKEA offers us the possibility of access twelve different designs both on their website and through of its physical stores at prices that will range between the 16 euros of the cheapest versions and the 35 euros that all the others cost. Designs of all kinds and for tastes, you know, the colors. Replacing them, as you have seen, is extremely simple and is one of its most interesting points.

Sound: More Sonos than IKEA

If the first products of the Sonos collaboration with IKEA already left a good taste in our mouths, this one has exceeded our expectations. Unfortunately we have not been able to access the technical characteristics, however, seeing its low thickness we feared the worst. Our fears were dispelled and Sonos has discovered to us once again that magic can be done. The device does not vibrate at low sounds, the sound is dynamic, and the volume is surprisingly high.

So that you can get an idea on a comparative level, we get a slightly more powerful result than a traditional Sonos One. Despite its arrangement, it does not vibrate the wall or offer broken sound. Plus, it supports Sonos' Trueplay smart audio protocol.

Connectivity and usage management

It is essential that you download the Sonos application, available for both iOS as if to Android completely free of charge. Here you will be able to quickly configure your device:

  1. Connect it to the power and wait for the LED to blink green
  2. Open the Sonos app and accept permission requests
  3. Choose the Sonos SYMFONISK device and accept the identification
  4. The SYMFONISK will beep and the app will link it
  5. Now you probably have to wait for an update
  6. You can now sync your audio services and play all your content

In one of the bezels we have access to three buttons, the one for Play / Pause that with a double tap will go through the song forwards and with a triple tap it will go backwards, as well as the buttons to manage the volume. For those with poor WiFi (we teach you to solve it easily) also has an RJ45 Ethernet network port.

In the rest of the inquiries we are facing a Sonos with all the law, availability SpotifyConnect, multiroom system and dozens of streaming audio services to enjoy. In the same way, is accessible through Apple HomeKit's AirPlay 2 protocol And of course, with IKEA's cast of connected home systems. We do not have that yes, with microphones that allow interaction with Alexa, Google Home or Siri, something that would have made this a truly round product.

Editor's experience and opinion

This SYMFONISK from IKEA and Sonos has honestly surprised me. Although it is not cheap, it is around 199 euros, it offers a sound befitting an equivalent and even more expensive Sonos product. This means that well placed it can be an ideal companion in an office, a bedroom and even in the living room, since they can be used in "stereo" mode.

The sound is very good, more than expected for an IKEA product, improving the range if possible. SYMPHONY to a point where we did not expect it. The possibility of alternating different panels invites us to create our own style and adapt it to our needs, if someone could do something like that, that was the Swedish IKEA. It is a product that I sincerely recommend ahead of those tedious sound towers that accompany our teenagers' rooms, it is very well integrated and offers characteristics according to the price. We have given this IKEA SYMFONISK a chance and we have reciprocated.
