Goodbye to Windows Phone 8.1

The mobile operating system developed by Microsoft, Windows Phone 8.1, has said goodbye definitively. Yesterday, July 11, the US company stopped supporting a system that was born with great expectations, which became very successful in certain countries, but whose shortcomings and abandonment by many developers have led to a almost marginal market share.

I'm sure very few of you will remember Windows Phone 8.1; in fact, you may never have seen it working on any phone, and that is because here, in Spain, this operating system has passed without pain or glory, however, strange as it may seem, there was some other country where it came to be above iOS.

Rest in peace, Windows Phone 8.1

Microsoft has already stopped supporting Windows Phone 8.1, that is, since yesterday, if you have a terminal running under this operating system and that is not compatible with Windows 10 Mobile, you will no longer receive updates of any kind, neither improvements, nor corrections nor even security patches. NOTHING!

The system that leaves us was replaced by Windows 10 Mobile, a version that, again, was an important leap forward, however, it seems that it was too late. The loss of market share, the abandonment of many developers, and the large number of terminals that could not be updated, put its future in serious doubt.

Today, 73,9% of users with this system use Windows Phone 8.1, while only 20,3% have Windows 10 Mobile, which implies that Microsoft could have left more than 7 out of 10 users in the lurch who, now, may decide to escape other options, either Android, either iOS.

In any case, If you still have a device running under Windows Phone 8.1, check if it can be upgraded to Windows 10 Mobile And in this case, we strongly recommend that you do so, especially for security reasons. Do not forget that for this you must install the update advisor from here.
