HONOR 9A, an economic version that relies on the battery [REVIEW]

The subsidiary of Huawei continues to bet on the access market, an inexpensive range of devices that offer good value for money, curiously the market niche where it is most difficult to compete given the rivalry with brands such as Redmi (Xiaomi) or Realme (Oppo).

This time we have in our hands the Honor 9A, the economic range of Honor that grows in cameras and battery to offer battle in the low-cost sector. Stay with us and discover everything you need to know about the Honor 9A to consider your purchase, especially its strengths, but without forgetting its weaknesses.

As in many occasions, we leave you at the top a video in which you will be able to see first the unboxing of the Honor 9A and thus observe both the content of the package and the design in a more specific way. TWe remind you that you can subscribe to our YouTube channel to continue watching a lot of analysis of the technological world, not only mobile phones, you already know that devices of all kinds come to our hands that are designed to make your life easier.

Materials and design

In terms of materials and design, this Honor 9A is clear about it, it dresses in silk while continuing to use plastic materials that help maintain the strength and lightness of the device. Therefore we have plastic frames and a plastic back that pretends to be glass and that for obvious reasons it becomes a strong magnet for prints, nothing out of the ordinary. As for the range of colors, it is quite interesting in turquoise (our edition), white and black.

  • Size: 159 74 x x 9mm
  • Weight: 185 grams

It is precisely this plastic that helps maintain its weight of only 185 grams despite the huge battery that it houses inside. For its part, the front houses a 6,3-inch screen, with the frames relatively used in a drop-type notch and a considerable lower frame. There remains for the rear a well-placed fingerprint reader and a huge camera module with three sensors. What I find inexcusable in a terminal from the end of 2020 is the microUSB port that it houses on the lower edge. For the rest we find an ordinary design in an attractive device to the eye.

Technical characteristics

We now go to the "engine" of this Honor 9A, where we find Huawei's own low-end processor, the Helio P35 that will be accompanied by 3GB of RAM in the version that we have tested and 64GB of storage. Of course, we can expand the memory with cards microSD up to 512GB, so we forget Huawei's own cards in this regard.

  • Display: 6,3 ″ HD + resolution
  • Processor: Helio P35
  • RAM: 3GB
  • Storage: 64GB + microSD up to 512GB
  • Battery: 5.000 mAh
  • Connectivity: 4G + Bluetooth 5.0 +

This hardware comes with Android 10 and Magic UI 3.0.1 customization layer, yes, we remind you that the absence of Google Services will mark your experience with the device. While it is true that on the YouTube channel of EloyGomezTV you will find how to install them easily and quickly. This is undoubtedly going to be the main stumbling block for an audience that may not be so used to this type of weave with the device. It seems to me without a doubt the biggest obstacle of this device that in the rest of the characteristics is perfectly on par with the competition. Huawei's App Gallery has more and more applications (WhatsApp, Facebook ... etc), and In my daily use it has not been any drama, but I have to say that I ended up choosing to install Google Services.

Camera test

We start with the main sensor, where we are with a resolution of 13MP with standard f / 1.8 aperture, It offers a result within what I expected in the high range, with a relatively good autofocus, but with some problems in terms of backlighting and obviously noise appears in the lowering of lighting. These 13MP give enough quality to offer sharp images. We accompany it with a 5MP Ultra Wide Angle sensor with a very versatile 120º field of view.

  • Main sensor: 13MP
  • Ultra Wide Angle Sensor: 5MP
  • Depth sensor: 2MP

Finally we have a 2MP depth sensorensured for best results with Aperture mode and Portrait mode. Obviously we lack a Night mode due to the power of the processor and sensors. For its part, in the front camera we have a well-centered 8MP sensor that offers a result that is quite in step with the beauty mode. Personally, I could have dispensed with the depth sensor and would have opted for a higher quality Wide Angle. As for the video, you can see the captured image in our test on YouTube.

Multimedia content

We have a screen of 6,3 inch tight fitting, as we usually see in the IPS LCD panels that Huawei mounts. We have a good viewing angle and well-saturated colors, without fanfare. Consuming multimedia content in its 6,3 inches becomes quite light, even taking into account that we do not reach the FullHD resolution, we stay in an HD + (something more than 720p) which is sufficient considering the price level offered by the variants of this terminal.

As for the microphone (you can check its power in our video-analysis) it is loud enough despite offering mono sound. I expected it within the most economical range of Honor.

As for the battery, 5.000 mAh that guarantees us more than two days of use, around 9 hours of screen In our tests, with a 10W charger that is included in the package, remember that you will have a microUSB cable.

Definitely for € 129 (somewhat above, somewhat below depending on the point of sale) so we usually find the device, little more we can ask for. It delivers exactly what it promises in its price range, offering good design, camera versatility, and balanced hardware. In addition, you can buy it on their page official Web.
