Design and materials: A formula for success
As you well know, Honor It is a subsidiary of Huawei, the brand that the Asian company uses to take advantage of some designs and functionalities and thus offer a more adjusted value for money, the same happens with this MagicBook 14.
It unequivocally reminds us of Huawei's MateBook D14. It is built entirely of metallic materials, with blue bezels and the Honor logo presiding over the cover. We can buy it in Mystic Silver, Space Gray and Microsoft Gray 365, with the Silver version being the one tested this time.
- Size: 214,8 x 322,5 x 15,9 mm
- Weight: 1,38 Kg
This matte finish makes it very resistant to fingerprints, the device is supremely compact, slim and transmits good sensations to the touch, something that is difficult for you to assume in a product of such a competitive price, where the old glories of the sector continue to bet on plastic.
Hardware: Focused on efficiency
We start with the heart, a processor Quad-core AMD Ryzen 5 3500U with 12-nanometer architecture. This processor is clearly focused on offering standard performance with significant energy efficiency, one of the highlights of this MagicBook 14.
In terms of graphic performance we find the well-known AMD Radeon Vega 8 Graphics, in theory the high end of AMD. Its clock frequency is 1200 MHz with 1024 MB DDR4 memory, so in principle we are not going to miss power in these sections, always bearing in mind that it is a device focused on office automation and multimedia consumption.
- 2x USB A
- 1x HDMI
- 1x 3,5 mm Jack
- 1x USB-C
- WebCam Pop-UP on keyboard
For its part, the unit tested has a Samsung PCIe 3.0 SSD with a capacity of 256GB in total. In the same way as the RAM is 8GB with DDR4 technology. By having a PCIe 3.0 port we will not have problems to replace the SSD if we are looking to expand the storage.
As for connectivity, we do not miss anything, WiFi 5, Bluetooth 5.0 and wireless connection with Honor and Huawei devices through the system Magic Link that we have already tested on other brand devices and that is an important added value.
Multimedia experience
We start with two compact-format speakers located on the lower sides and that exactly match the perforations made in the aluminum chassis for a clear and efficient sound. This time we do not have the Harman Kardon signature or other added adjustments.
However, the sound reminds us a lot in power and clarity of Huawei's MateBook D14. More than enough to listen to music while we work, keep calls (with its built-in microphone) or view multimedia content. The speakers match the price of the product and deliver what they promise.
For its part, the screen offers a very thin frame on the upper and lateral parts, with 14 inches in total and a panel IPS LCD which looks good in any position. We have a matte anti-reflective coating that helps us a lot outdoors, a Full HD resolution (1920 x 1080) in a 16: 9 aspect ratio resulting in a 84% frontal utilization.
Panel is tight fitting, TUV certified Rhineland, colors with the ideal saturation, and that is because the panels that Huawei uses in its products usually have good characteristics in this section. In these times that run what less than IPS and FullHD in a laptop, and this meets it.
Outstanding Features
We start with the integrated fingerprint reader, It will allow us to start the computer only by pressing it once, without having to identify ourselves again, a technology that Honor / Huawei has implemented very well and that in our tests has been favorable.
The trackpad is prominent and of good quality, better than most mid / high-end Windows products. For its part, the keyboard has an ASIN layout (without Ñ), but an ISO layout, so the keys respond with the Spanish keyboard even though this does not match the key they represent.
The device has endured us in terms of autonomy a standard day of approximately 6 hours of work, all through its 65W USB-C charger that seems like a success. Regarding autonomy, it will respect us as long as we are working or consuming multimedia content, things change if we decide to play.
We have Pop-Up camera located on the keyboard Which I think is an interesting solution at the design level, but that will show our double chin in video calls.
Editor experience
We are facing a laptop that in certain offers is positioned breaking the mid-range market for laptops, especially if we take into account its added values. We have construction materials, hardware and software that generally represents an increase in quality and power compared to the alternatives offered by other brands on the market.
Without going any further, at this time on the Honor website you can buy it click here.
