The format PDF in recent years it has become a standard when it comes to being able to share information in a simple way, both for its versatility and for the compression that is carried out when creating the document. Without a doubt, every day that passes it is used more, both on computers and mobile devices.
Its main asset is to allow to maintain the style of the document created, so that when sharing it with others, it does not lose its style, nor its characteristics, such as the type and size of the font, images, or layout. But what if we want split a PDF document into multiple parts, for example, send each person a different fragment? Keep reading and you will learn how to do it.
Online or local services?
Basically, we can distinguish two methods to perform the division of the PDF document. We have what a priori seems the simplest and fastest option, which is use a program installed on our computer in order to perform the division, or that of use an online service that works by uploading the document to a website and choosing which pages we want to extract from the original document.
Due to the ease provided by the option of being able to do it through a website that provides that service, we are going to present two alternatives for this, which we can do well from our mobile phone, tablet or computer. We will only need an internet connection, and the document to be divided.
PDF2GO
The first tool we introduce is called PDF2GO. It is a web portal where we have a endless tools to be able to modify and deal with PDF documents. Among its options, in addition to allowing the conversion of PDF to Word y vice versa, will facilitate editing, conversion and, above all, will allow us to divide a PDF document into several parts.
The steps to follow are so simple that it is child's play. We will only have to access the PDF2GO website and look for the option of «Split PDF». If you prefer, you can access directly using this link. Once we access it, it will briefly explain the purpose of the tool, which we already know. We will have a space in yellow where we can drag or select our document, whether we have it on our computer, in Google Drive, Dropbox, or hosted at any web address.
Once the file is uploaded to the web, it will offer us the possibility of choose what type of division we want. We can choose between one page by page division, separating each one of them in a different document, or a custom division, placing the mouse pointer and clicking between two pages, where we want the separation to go.
Once we have chosen what type of separation we want, at the bottom we will have a series of buttons with which we can commit the changes and save the document in the parts that we have chosen; cancel the separation and return to the document selection page, or split all the pages, and make each one a separate document. We can also reset the division, to start over choosing which pages we want to separate.
If we choose the option to save changes, it will take us to a new screen where it will show us how many parts our PDF has been divided into. The name of each part will consist of the original name, to which the range of pages that compose it will be added, as can be seen in the image below.
With the selection boxes we can choose which files we want to continue editing, in case we want to divide the document again. On the other hand, if we already accept the division as good, we can download each part separately with the green button to the right of each name, or download a compressed file with all parts of the document in it. This option is useful if we divide a document into many parts and we want to download it with just one click, without having to do it one by one.
SmallPDF
SmallPDF is a very similar tool, in form and content, to PDF2GO. In addition to offering us other possibilities when editing PDF, it gives us the opportunity to divide a document into several parts, or rather, extract from it the pages we want.
Its operation is very similar, because we will only have to access your website, and drop or search for the document in the purple box that we will find.
Once the file has been chosen, the tool will allow us two basic options among those to choose. We can choose if we want extract each page into a PDF: select which pages we want to split from the original file.
Once the option that best suits our needs has been selected, we will follow the steps that the tool suggests so intuitively. If we select the pages to extract, the method of doing it will be as simple as click on each of the pages that we want to separate from the document, as if they were files, which will be shaded in purple. We will click on Divide PDF and after a few seconds, it will take us to the download page.
Once on the download page, the options are very basic and straightforward. Will offer us a direct download button, the first one next to the name of the file, with which when pressed we will download the file directly to our computer. Next we find the icon of an envelope, giving us the option to share it via e-mail or create a link to the document extracted to share. Together with these two icons we will have the options to save the document directly to our Dropbox or Google Drive account, and finally, we will have the options of re-edit the document or rejoin it completely.
As you have seen, dividing a PDF is a very simple process having the right tools. We only need to have an internet connection, and the file that we want to divide. Using these simple tools we can carry out the process in the blink of an eye, quickly and easily, and anywhere regardless of whether we prefer to do it from our computer, mobile phone or tablet.
