Although many people resort to the different options of Google Maps to use this application as a GPS when traveling by car, the truth is that there are still many users who prefer to be guided by their trusted navigator. All they have to do is update tomtom and always keep it up to date.
Obviously, when we talk about updating, we are referring to the navigation software installed on the physical device. It does not matter what model we have in our vehicle, it is enough to make sure that it is compatible with the latest versions of the program.
The TomTom company was created in the Netherlands in the 90s, quickly becoming one of the world's leading brands in terms of navigation systems. The real tree of this manufacturer was produced thanks to his specializing in vehicle navigation systems and the demand for this type of device, which skyrocketed in the early 2000s.
At first and still somewhat primitive TomTom Navigator Other models followed, such as the best-seller TomTom GO, presented in 2004, or the Tom Tom Rider Intended for use on motorcycles and scooters.
Satellite navigation came into our lives like a revolution and we all adapted to what it offered us: goodbye to paper maps and getting lost on a lost road. The life of the driver, easier than ever. But for the information on the maps we consult to be useful, it has to be completely reliable and real. And that can only be achieved by maintaining a constant update of the data.
In this post we are going to explain how to update TomTom GPS software completely free of charge to be able to continue using this wonderful tool on our urban routes and during our trips and road trips.
MyDriveConnect
To carry out updates and renew their internal software, Tomtom brand GPS devices have a specific application (available for both PC and Mac). This is called MyDriveConnect and it has to be installed on a computer. Once this is done, you just have to transfer all the updated information to the browser. On the official website you can find the download links.
Newer models don't even need this tool. It is enough to connect them to a WiFi network and run the update process from its own options menu.
However, older models are not compatible with this app. The solution in this case is to resort to a previous program, the TomTom Home. Also on the official website of the manufacturer are the download links.
Update TomTom on Windows
Once the latest version of MyDrive Connect has been downloaded and installed on our PC (the process takes just a few minutes), these are the steps to follow:

- First of all, before opening the MyDrive Connect application, we must connect our TomTom navigator to the computer. If the program does not start automatically, we will do it ourselves manually.
- After we started session with our user account.
- Then on the screen will appear all the updates available for our GPS *. On the list, we select the updates that we consider necessary. It is recommended to select all of them.
- Once this is done, we click on "Update Selected". The program offers us a brief description of all the improvements and modifications that the new versions of the software incorporate. After reading them, click on "Accept and Install".
- When the process is finished, a message is displayed on the screen that says "Ready to go!".
Finally, we disconnect the GPS from the PC and we will have all the maps and information conveniently installed in our browser.
(*) If nothing appears on the screen, it means that our browser already has the latest version installed.
Update TomTom on Mac
After downloading and installing MyDrive Connect on our Mac, we must follow a process similar to that of updating via PC, although with some differences. The download is exactly the same, but to proceed with the installation you have to take the file in “.dmg” format and drag it to the “Applications” icon. We accept the terms of use and wait until the process is finished, after which the program starts automatically. From there:
- We connect our TomTom GPS navigator to the computer via the USB cable.
We log in with our user account. - On the next screen, all the content available for our browser appears before us. We can obtain a more specific visualization by clicking on "My Content".
- Next, we must select the updates that we want to install in the browser, checking the corresponding boxes (again, it is best to select them all).
- The next step is to click the button «Update selected». In the new window that appears, we have to confirm by clicking on the button "Accept and install."
- When the process is finished, a message is displayed on the screen that says "Ready to go!".
