Huawei Band 6, the most complete smartband on the market [Analysis]

Smart bracelets as well as smart watches are products that are increasingly present in our day-to-day lives. Despite the fact that at the beginning of the generations of these devices it seemed that users were reluctant to their functionalities and designs, the reality is that brands such as Huawei have bet heavily on the w and the results have been quite favorable.

We analyze in depth the recent Huawei Band 6, a device with great autonomy and characteristics of premium products. Discover with us what has been our experience with the Huawei Band 6, its strengths and of course also its weaknesses.

Materials and design: Beyond a simple bracelet

While most brands bet on small bracelets, with inconspicuous designs and we would almost say that an intention to hide them, Huawei has done the opposite with its Band 6. This quantifying bracelet is very close to being directly a smartwatch both in terms of screen, size and final design. In fact, it inevitably reminds us of another product of the brand such as the Huawei Watch Fit. In this case we have a nice product, with a button on the right side and that is offered in three box versions: Gold and Black.

Do you like the Huawei Band? The price will surprise you on sales portals such as Amazon.

  • Size: 43 x 25,4 x 10,99 mm
  • Weight: 18 grams

The edges are slightly rounded, among other things to favor its durability and resistance. Of course, we do not find holes for speakers or microphones on this bracelet, they do not exist. The rear is for the two charging pins and for the sensors in charge of SpO2 and heart rate. The screen occupies a large part of the front and is undoubtedly the main protagonist of the design, that makes the product so close to a smartwatch. Obviously, the manufacture is plastic for the box, favoring its lightness, in the same way that the straps are made of hypoallergenic silicone.

Technical characteristics

In this Huawei Band 6 We will have three main sensors, the accelerometer, the gyroscope and Huawei's own optical heart rate sensor, the TrueSeen 4.0 that will be combined to deliver SpO2 results. For its part, the connectivity will be chained to Bluetooth 5.0 which in principle has offered us a good result from the hand of a Huawei P40 that we have used for the tests.

We have resistance to water of which we do not know the IP protection in particular and the possibility of submerging it up to 5 ATM. As for the battery, we have 180 mAh in total that will be charged through the magnetic charging port that is included in the package, not so the power adapter, so we must take advantage of the other devices that we have at home. This Huawei Band 6 will be compatible with iPhone devices from iOS 9 and Android from its sixth version. We do not have wearOS as can be expected, we have our own Operating System of the Asian company that usually performs very well in these tasks.

The big screen and its autonomy

The screen will take all the spotlights, and that is la Huawei Band 6 mount a 1,47-inch panel that will occupy 64% of the front Total according to the technical data, although honestly, due to its slightly curved design, our feeling is that it occupies even more front, so there seems to be a successful design work behind. This directly rivals that of his older brother the Huawei Watch Fit, whose screen is 1,64 inches, also rectangular in design. We do not know what level of protection the screen has, although in our tests it has behaved like a sufficiently resistant glass.

This AMOLED panel has a resolution of 194 x 368 pixelssy has a higher level of brightness than competitive bracelets such as the well-known Xiaomi Mi Band. For this reason, the screen is perfectly visible in broad daylight, despite the fact that it lacks automatic brightness. The third intermediate level seems to be the one that will serve as a squire to be able to handle it easily without having to continuously manage the brightness and also without greatly damaging the battery.

The screen has a level of touch sensitivity that has responded correctly to the analysis, the representation of colors is also favorable, especially if we consider that the device is designed to hang from our wrist and not to enjoy movies, I mean, the saturation of colors and contrasts notably favor the reading of the information that the Huawei Band 6 wants to offer us at all times. The screen looks great for everyday use.

The battery will not be a problem, although those 180 mAh may seem few, The reality is that with the daily use that we have given it, the Huawei Band has been able to offer us 10 days of use, that can be extended to 14 if you carry out certain tricks that in the end prevent us from enjoying the device.

User experience

We have a basic gesture control:

  • Down: Settings
  • Up: Notification Center
  • Left or right: Different widgets and presets

Thus we will be able to interact with the device, thus adjust the brightness, the spheres, the night mode and consult the information. Among the installed applications we will have:

  • Training
  • Heart rate
  • Blood oxygen sensor
  • Registro de actividad
  • Sleep mode
  • Stress mode
  • Breathing exercises
  • Notifications
  • Time
  • Stopwatch, timer, alarm, flashlight, search and settings

Honestly, we will not miss absolutely anything in this bracelet, although we will not be able to extend it either.

We cannot expect extra functions from it, we have a quantifying bracelet that beats its rivals in design and on screen at a price of 59 euros thatHonestly, it makes me rule out all the competition altogether. GPS could be missed, I have it clear, but it is impossible to offer more for so little. The "cheap" smartband market has been totally turned upside down by this Huawei Band.
