Huawei MediaPad M6: Review of a tablet with a lot to say

Tablets are a type of device that is less and less in demand on the market, This may be due to the dominant position of certain brands and, above all, to the little transition between models, which makes users stay as long as possible with the one they mainly acquired. Much of the blame is also on smartphones that are designed with more and more power and larger size, causing us to rethink whether such a product is worth it.

This time We have been testing the Huawei MediaPad M6, a hit on the table in the tablet market with some very interesting features. Stay with us and discover this in-depth analysis.

Design: Safe, smooth

We find a tablet of a large but compact size, measures 257 x 170 x 7,2 mm on a 10,8-inch panel, that is, over 75% of the surface is a screen and the thickness does not envy that of some high-end smartphones. Regarding the weight, we stayed a little below 500 grams which makes it a comfortable product and quite easy to transport and especially to use with one hand, something quite relevant.

  • Size: 257 x 170 x 7,2 mm
  • Weight: 498 grams

It is built on a anodized aluminum chassis and has a flat front and black frame. We have four speakers on the tops and judging by the Huawei logo on the front, it is well thought out to be used horizontally most of the time. We also find on the front a fingerprint reader on top of what would be the USB-C port and in the lower right corner a 3,5mm Jack for the most nostalgic of sound (yes, it does not include headphones in the box). A simplistic but nice design, Taking advantage of the framework to include a compact fingerprint reader seems like a success.

Hardware: Chest out with the Kirin and a bit of everything

As we have said, much of the protagonism of this Huawei MediaPad M6 It is taken by the Kirin 980 and the Mali G76 GPU, both more than proven and accompanied by 4 GB of RAM that will delight users.

The rest of the features are also at the level of this device that lacks absolutely nothing, including a smart connector at the bottom that will allow us to acquire keyboards for the tablet that make it practically a «computer» with all the words (we have not yet been able to test the keyboard and its price is around € 80).

Multimedia section: Highly satisfactory

If it is called "Media" Pad it will be for something, we have a panel that has a fantastic brightness, with 2K resolution or WQXGA as some prefer to call it. This offers good blacks and a fairly accurate color reproduction, as you can see in the video analysis that heads this review. The 10,8-inch screen has offered us more than satisfactory results, executing well the actions that we ask. Besides, his aspect ratio 16:10 It is clearly focused on the consumption of audiovisual content, and that is appreciated when we use the corresponding platforms.

This panel has DolbyVision(HDR), but the sound is not far behind. Four Harman Kardon signed speakers with Dolby Atmos support that delight the product, both to listen to music and to watch movies and play video games, in the sound section it is one of the best products in its category, and possibly the best in its price range. We listen to the content loud, clear and without distortion, a big thank you to Huawei for the work done on the audio of this product.

Also noteworthy is the 13MP main camera with LED flash, that offers a more than acceptable quality in our tests, with a "macro" mode that has surprised us and that will be an ideal complement to this product.

Much more than a content player

It costs to disconnect from its character as a product designed to consume content, but we have a USB-C OTG connection at the bottom that expands ad infinitum the accessories level possibilities of this product. We also have an ideal weight and size for any type of task. If we accompany it with more than decent hardware and the fact that it runs Android 10 from the hand of EMUI 10.0, we have all the ingredients in the pot to enjoy a great productivity tool that I find much more attractive than any laptop in its price range.

And the keyboard? Huawei has put a solution to that with its smart keyboard (sold separately). We have obtained satisfactory results both playing (PUBG and CoD Mobile) and executing office tasks thanks to the usual applications such as Microsoft Word, Outlook and Excel.

Autonomy and the shadow of Trump's veto

We start with autonomy, 7.500 mAh with fast charging up to 18W (included in the box) that delights users, less than 2 hours to fully charge and more than two days consuming all kinds of content and playing is what we can say from our tests, they have been quite satisfactory, at the battery level , a point where these products usually fail, Huawei has shown once again that it knows how to do things very well in the battery section.

Unfortunately we return to talk about a product that lacks Google Services and Google Apps. In our review you will see how in less than five minutes you will have all these features working, but this veto by Trump and Google ends up slightly blurring the experience with a product that, as happened at the time with the Huawei Mate 30 Pro, was destined to position itself as one of the best in terms of quality-price on the market.

Editor's opinion

Despite the unavoidable and involuntary problem of the absence of Google Services, we are faced with a product that quality-price fights face to face with the great rival, the iPad, being better than the equivalent version in price in almost every aspect. Very far also in terms of quality-price of the competition, winning by a landslide to the tablets that other brands have presented lately and only remaining below in certain aspects such as the screen. Huawei has managed to make a round product, a tablet of around 350 euros that you can use to work, study and enjoy multimedia content with great claims.
