Comparison between the Huawei P40 and the Samsung Galaxy S20

Huawei P40 Pro

As planned, Huawei has officially announced the new Huawei P40 range, a new range that is made up of three terminals: Huawei P40, P40 Pro and P40 Pro Plus. Last month the new Galaxy S20 range was presented, also made up of three models: Galaxy S20, S20 Pro and S20 Ultra.

Now the problem is for the user, a user who seeing the wide offer available in the high-end of the telephony market, has it increasingly difficult to choose which is the terminal that best suits your needs. If you are not clear about it and you have doubts between Samsung or Huawei, this article will show you the differences between each of the terminals.

Huawei P40

We start with the entry range to both terminals, although that does not mean that they are terminals for all budgets. Both models bet on a 6.2 screen for the S20 and 6.1 for the P40, so the size of the screen it is not a question that could be considered as a differentiating option.

The difference if we find it inside. While the Galaxy S20 is managed by 8 GB of RAM, with an option of 12 GB only in the 5G model, the Huawei P40 offers us only 6 GB of RAM. Another difference is that Huawei's processor is compatible with 5G networks, while both the Snapdragon 865 and the Exynos 990 of the Galaxy S20 are without paying 5 euros more for the 100G version.

In the photographic section, we find three cameras in each of the models:

S20 P40
Main camera 12 mpx 50mpx
Wide angle camera 12 mpx -
Ultra wide angle camera - 16 mpx
Telephoto Camera 64 mpx 8 mpx 3x optical zoom

The battery of both is practically the same, 4.000 mAh of the S20 for the 3.800 mAh of the P40, both offer a fast charging system both wired and wireless and the fingerprint reader under the screen.

Huawei P40 Pro

The S20 Pro offers us a 6.7-inch AMOLED screen with a 120 Hz refresh rate, while in the P40 Pro the screen is OLED, reaching 6.58 inches and 90 Hz refresh rate. Both models are managed by the same processors as the Galaxy S20 and P40: Snapdragon 865 / Exynos 990 for S20 Pro and Kirin 990 5G for Huawei P40.

The RAM of both devices is the same 8 GB, although in Samsung's 5G model, it reaches 12 GB, and for which we have to pay 100 euros more. The storage space of the S20 Pro starts from 128 and up to 512 GB, in UFS 3.0 format. The P40 Pro is only available with 256GB of storage.

The front camera of the S20 Pro is the same as that of the entry model, with 10 mpx of resolution for the 32 mpx of the front camera of the P40 Pro. At the rear, we find 3 and 4 cameras respectively.

One of the most important issues for most users is the battery, a battery that reaches the 4.500 mAh in the S20 Pro versus 4.200 mAh in the P40 Pro. Both are compatible with fast and wireless charging. The fingerprint reader is found under the screen in both models.

Huawei P40 Pro

The Galaxy S20 Ultra is the only model in the S20 range that is only available in 5G version, so it is the only one that can compete on equal benefits with the highest model in the P40 range, the P40 Pro Plus.

The S20 Ultra screen reaches 6.9 inches, it is AMOLED and reaches a 120Hz refresh rate just like the entire S20 range. For its part, the P40 Pro + offers us the same screen size as the P40 Pro, 6.58 inches with the same refresh rate, 90 Hz.

The RAM memory of the S20 Ultra reaches 16 GB for the 8 GB of the P40 Pro +, which is twice as much as the Huawei model. The front camera of the S20 Ultra is 40 mpx while that of the P40 Pro + is 32 mpx. If we talk about the rear cameras, we find 3 and 4 rear cameras respectively.

S20Ultra P40 Pro +

Wide angle camera 12 mpx -
Ultra wide angle camera - 40 mpx
Telephoto Camera 48 mpx 8 mpx 5x optical zoom / 8 mpx 10x optical zoom
TOF sensor Si Si

The fingerprint reader is under the screen, like the rest of the models. The S20Ultra's battery reaches 5.000 mAh for the 4.200 mAh of the P40 Pro +.

Without Google services

The problem that Huawei faces, once again, and therefore all its future customers, is that once again, as happened with the Mate 30, the new range Hauwei P40 hits the market with Huawei Mobile Services (HMS) instead of Google services.

The problem that this represents is found in that we will not find even Google applications nor the most used applications around the world such as WhatsApp, Facebook, Instagram and others in the App Gallery, an application store that is available on these terminals.

Fortunately, it is not very complicated to install Google services searching the internet, so if you are interested in some of the new terminals that Huawei has presented, not having Google services should not be a problem to take into account.
