Huawei P9 Vs Samsung Galaxy S7, uneven duel? on the heights of the high end

Huawei P9

This week and after a huge amount of rumors and leaks, the new one was finally officially presented. Huawei P9. This new smartphone from the Chinese manufacturer will directly be part of the family of the so-called high-end market where it will meet other flagships such as the LG G5, the iPhone 6S or the Samsung Galaxy S7, with which we face today in this duel, at the heights of the high-end, but that apparently has a clear winner, although will the supremacy of the Samsung terminal be confirmed ?.

Although now we will go on to compare both terminals point by point there is already one aspect in which the Galaxy S7 clearly beats the Huawei P9 and it is none other than in sales. The South Korean terminal has been on the market for a few weeks now, reaping significant sales figures, and the success of the P9 remains to be seen.

Huawei has always distanced itself from big events and for some years now, it has always presented its insignia searches outside of big events such as MWC. That makes it gain prominence, but also time compared to other mobile devices. This time the Galaxy S7 has a great advantage, which now we will see if it is in all senses or only in some.

Design; victory for Huawei for the small details

If we look at this Huawei P9 we will quickly realize that we are facing a terminal in which its design has been worked and polished to a great extent. Not that the design of the Galaxy S7 has not been worked and polished, but some details, to reach perfection, are still pending.

The new smartphone of the Chinese manufacturer has a front side where the screen fills all the space, leaving the side frames in just 1,7 millimeters. This not only looks very good aesthetically, but also greatly reduces the size of the terminal. In addition, on the back Huawei has managed to solve one of the great problems of most manufacturers, Samsung among them, and that is none other than the projection of the rear camera.

Unlike the Samsung Galaxy S7, the Huawei P9 camera is fully integrated into the device, with absolutely nothing sticking out.

Finally in terms of design we must highlight the Huawei P9 that will hit the market in four different colors; dark gray, white, gold and rose gold. In each of these versions the finish will be different and for example the white terminal has a laminated finish that reminds us of ceramic, while the gray color offers us a brushed metal finish.

Screen; the Samsung Galaxy S7 takes the triumph by little

Samsung

If we put the Huawei P9 and the Samsung Galaxy S7 face to face and we look only at the screen, the differences will be minimal and is that in the case of the Chinese manufacturer's terminal we will find a 5,2-inch IPS panel with a Full HD resolution of 1.920 x 1.080 pixels. Samsung for its part decided to mount a Super AMOLED panel with Quad HD resolution of 2.560 x 1.440 pixels.

The screen of the Samsung terminal offers us a density of 576 pixels per inch, compared to the 423 pixels of the Huawei P9. This is undoubtedly important, although the set of the screen and its features are what make us declare the smartphone of the South Korean company as the winner in this section.

Processor and memory

If we look inside these two new mobile devices we find our own processor. In the case of the Samsung Galaxy S7 we find an eight-core processor Exynos 8890, of which four work at a speed of 2,3 GHz and another four do so at 1,6 GHz. Supported by a 4GB RAM memory we find enormous power that will allow any user to carry out any activity or use the device for everything you can think of.

In the case of the Huawei P9 the processor is a Kirin HiSilicon 955, also with 8 cores, 4 of which are Cortex A72 running at 2,5 GHz and the other four cores are Cortex A53 and working at 1,8 GHz. As for the RAM memory in the case of the Chinese terminal we find two configurations, an entry with 3GB and 32GB of storage and another with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage. In both cases, the power it offers us for any average user will surely be more than enough.

In this section it is impossible to declare a winner since both terminals are very peculiar as far as the processor is concerned, and in the absence of testing the new Huawei P9, it would be very daring to opt for one or the other.

Camera, the true duel in the heights

Huawei

The camera of a smartphone is usually one of the most important aspects for users and therefore one of those that manufacturers try to improve the most year after year. In the case of Samsung and Huawei there is no doubt that they have worked a lot in the last year and that is that the improvements they have introduced in both the Galaxy S7 and the P9 are really important and interesting.

Starting with the Huawei P9, which is more recent since its presentation took place just a few hours ago, we can say that the Chinese manufacturer has found the perfect partner in Leica, one of the most important brands in the world of photography. The camera of this new terminal has two lenses with two 12 megapixel sensors each with an opening f / 2.2 y 27 mm focal length.

One of these sensors is responsible for capturing color images and the other sensor focuses on the brightness and detail of the image. Apparently in the first photographs taken with the P9, the quality of them is simply sensational.

Samsung Galaxy S7

According to Huawei itself, the pixels of each sensor have a size of 1,25 um, which when combined results in points of 1,76 um. If we add all this, we obtain brighter photographs than those obtained with any other terminal and also with a much improved contrast.

Comparison with the Samsung Galaxy S7, of which we have all already seen the quality it offers us when taking a picture will be difficult. And is that the camera of the Samsung terminal also incorporates two sensors of 12 megapixels each. Unlike Huawei's device, this one does not incorporate two lenses, but one. According to the South Korean manufacturer this allows a practically instantaneous focus and photographs with 95% more brightness.

There is no doubt that Samsung and Huawei have made a very important bet for the camera of their terminals and the best ones compared to the Galaxy S6 and the Huawei P8 are evident. When it comes to choosing the best camera, I think that until we test the new P9 in depth it will be impossible to decide. We already know what the Galaxy S7 is capable of, which is simply fantastic, but we do not know for sure what the Huawei P9 is capable of, although from what has been seen, the quality of the images could be even higher than the one offered by the Samsung terminal.

Battery

Finally, we are going to stop and review the battery that each terminal incorporates, and therefore the autonomy it offers us.

The battery both in the Samsung Galaxy S7 and the Huawei P9 we find a battery that reaches 3.000 mAh, and both devices also have fast charging, a more than interesting feature, especially for those users who always go without the battery too charged and in a hurry.

In the absence of testing the Huawei P9, the Chinese manufacturer's smartphone could have some advantage in this section by mounting a screen with a lower resolution, which will make a lower expense compared to the screen of the Samsung Galaxy S7.

Verdict; a duel without a winner, at least for now

Samsung

Although the idea does not convince me at all, I think I should and should leave this duel without a winner. The Samsung Galaxy S7 has innovated very little in every way, although it has improved a bit in several respects. Of course, it did not need too much to continue being without a doubt one of the best terminals on the market.

For its part, Huawei has managed to improve the design even more, continue to cut the screen frames, get an almost perfect camera and also without taking a bit of power from this Huawei P9.

Tie in the heights of the high-end, although perhaps when we can test the new Huawei terminal in depth we can give a winner to this duel.
