HUAWEI Watch 3, with HarmonyOS is the smartwatch of reference

We have not brought a smart watch to our website for some time now, so today is a good day to accompany you with the analysis of the latest and most innovative smartwatch on the market, the Huawei Watch 3, which brings much more than hardware and design High-end, it is accompanied by Harmony OS 2.0, the operating system with which Huawei wants to finally disassociate itself from Google.

I'm absolutely sure not, so join us in this review.

First of all and as almost always, we remind you that we have a video analysis available on our channel YouTube, so do not miss the opportunity to subscribe and take a look at this review of almost half an hour in which you will not miss a detail.

Design: More premium, more Huawei

The device has the already characteristic round design alternative to what Apple offers. Huawei's smartwatch is completely spherical and It has dimensions of 46,2 x 46,2 x 12 millimeters that have surprised by their large size, something unusual in this type of watch. This is striking, but we could say that it does not make us "excessively" big either.

For its part, the watch has a totally black metallic chassis in the edition that we have tested and a silicone strap. We recall that Huawei will also launch a version entirely built in titanium, with a strap in the same terms and we can purchase different straps with a simple closure system at the usual points of sale. In terms of weight, only 52 grams, the Huawei Watch 3 surprises with its lightness. The construction is very good, it feels premium in the same way that the base is made of a glossy plastic / ceramic material. It does not take much treatment to realize that it is a high-end product.

Hardware and software, HarmonyOS is the icing on the cake

To perform the usual tasks, the Asian firm has decided to set up its own processor, the HiSilicon Hi6262, So in this version it does not mount processors from the Kirin range, which are for those devices that require higher powers. We have 2 GB of RAM to accompany the processor and even 16 GB storage total for both applications and compatible audiovisual content.

  • Flashlight function
  • Function to evacuate the water
  • Resistance up to 5 ATM

The Operating System of this jewel for the wrist is HarmonyOS 2.0, Huawei's first device with this system that reaches the general public. Our feeling is bright HarmonyOS moves smoothly and we encountered no malfunctions - in fact, it rivals the competition directly, with speed rates higher than Wear OS and Samsung alternatives. It has its own Huawei App Gallery for the Watch, unfortunately we have not found an application attractive enough to take advantage of this function. However, the applications installed natively have seemed more than enough, as well as its integration with the Huawei Health application that we recommend installing from the App Gallery.

Screen and connectivity, nothing is missing

We have a prominent panel 1,43-inch AMOLED which offers a total of 466 x 466 pixels, in result we have 326 pixels per inch. Offered with a soft drink rate of 60 Hz, which is more than enough for a smart watch screen. Mainly highlights the fact that we have a maximum of 1.000 nits of brightness, something that is especially noticeable outdoors where we can make the most of this capacity since its use in broad daylight is total and sublime, without reflections or any type of problem derived from it.

Regarding connectivity, we have connectivity 4G via eSIM, which at the moment is only compatible with versions of Movistar and O2, raising some problems with Orange, Vodafone and other derivatives. We also have NFC Although we still cannot make payments because Huawei is still working on the agreements with the payment gateways. Have Bluetooth 5.2 and WiFi 802.11n for the rest of the connections, something that will allow us the luxury of not missing anything at all.

Sensors everywhere and a lot of training

We have all this huge amount of sensors, so we doubt that you are capable of performing any task that this Huawei Watch 3 is not capable of measuring:

  • Accelerometer
  • Gyroscope
  • Heart rate sensor
  • Barometer
  • Digital compass
  • Blood oxygen saturation sensor
  • Thermometer

At the moment the thermometer is only capable of measuring skin temperature, but during the month of July we will receive an update that will allow us to measure body temperature. The barometer is very accurate and the same happens with the rest of the sensors with which Huawei It has already proven its effectiveness in previous versions of its smart watches.

As for the training we have more than 100 different versions, that will offer us reliable results in the Huawei Health application. This is the smartwatch of the firm that has the widest range of possibilities in this regard.

The promised autonomy of the device is days with all capacities activated and up to 14 days if we go to energy saving mode. In our tests we have obtained 2 days of maximum use and around 12 days it will offer us at the level of energy savings, Huawei promises us that in a next update we will obtain the results promised by the brand.

Editor's opinion

This Huawei Watch 3 looks like the first litmus test of HarmonyOS and for now it has far exceeded, honestly, the user experience is superior to that of many previous versions of the Apple Watch and far superior to Wear OS. Undoubtedly, a watch of 369 euros (with a FreeBuds 3 as a gift) that remains at a very high level is positioned as the most intelligent version from my point of view for Android.
