Huawei Watch 4 Pro, everything a smartwatch should be [Review]

Huawei Watch 4 Pro

Smart watches are a technological accessory that is increasingly in demand, and Huawei is a company that has been launching this type of device almost since the beginning, and that has earned it the experience that has allowed it to manufacture smartwatches with great precision.

In this case we try the jewel in the crown, the Huawei Watch 4 Pro, the mid-high range of smart watches designed so that you don't miss anything. Take a look with us at this curious device, and discover if it is truly capable of rivaling the bets of Apple and Samsung for this purpose.

At the end of last year, Huawei opted for this smartwatch to create an intermediate range between Apple's Ultra and Ultimate versions from the Asian manufacturer itself. This device, which without being cheap, moves away from the most luxurious proposals of other companies, is full of new features and functionalities.

Materials and design

As soon as you put your hands on a Huawei smartwatch you already know who made it, and right now on the market there are only three manufacturers capable of making excellent products in this sense: Samsung, Apple and Huawei itself (not necessarily in this order).

We have been testing the 48 millimeter version, since it is the only one offered, at launch, with a titanium case and strap, a noble material that many companies have wanted to sell as the sumum of quality, and that Huawei makes available to almost anyone.

  • Size: 47,6 x 47,6 x 12,99 millimeters
  • Weight: 65 grams without strap
  • Resistance: IP68 up to 5 ATM
  • Sapphire crystal

Those of you who read me regularly will know that, despite using Apple Watch since 2014, I have always had the same complaint: A smartwatch has to look like a watch. In this case, the Huawei Watch 4 Pro seems like it, and that gives it an extra formality that allows you to dress it without complexes. I often tend to take off my Apple Watch to put on a more "formal" watch in certain situations, that won't be necessary with the Huawei Watch 4 Pro.

With its strap, and especially the titanium one, The Huawei Watch 4 Pro is heavy, but nothing that particularly catches our attention.

In front of its round chronograph dial, we have a digital crown and a button, both reserved for the right bezel. Replacing the belts is quick and easy thanks to Huawei's proprietary format, which at the same time limits the acquisition of straps by third-party manufacturers.

  • Aerospace grade titanium case
  • Rotating crown with haptic feedback
  • Customizable button

It really catches my attention that in the contents of the box, the Watch 4 Pro's wireless charging cable has a USB-A port and not a USB-C port.

Regarding functionality limitations, we remind you that it has IP68 protection, that is, you can swim with it calmly (without submerging yourself excessively).

hardware and connectivity

In the hardware section, we do not have much information about Huawei's proprietary processor and RAM, what we can guarantee with our in-depth test is its excellent performance and the total fluidity of the capabilities it offers us through the different applications.

As expected, The device runs HarmonyOS 3.1 (it has been updated later) and has the App Gallery that will allow you to access tens of thousands of applications, although honestly, the software included by Huawei natively seems more than enough to me.

One of the central points, as it could not be otherwise, is its screen. We have a 1,5-inch LTPO AMOLED panel, with the ability to obtain a refresh rate of only 1Hz in Always-on Display mode, which greatly improves battery consumption.

Huawei Watch 4 Pro

  • 466 x 466 pixel resolution
  • 310 pixels per inch density

In addition to the above, at the connectivity level we enjoy NFC, Bluetooth 5.2, connectivity WiFi with 2,4GHz networks and most importantly, the possibility of using it as a completely independent device through e.g, connected to 4G networks.

Huawei Watch 4 Pro

  • Accelerometer
  • Gyroscope
  • Compass
  • Heart rate sensor
  • Ambient light sensor
  • Barometer
  • Sensor de temperatura
  • Electrocardiogram
  • Depth sensor
  • Blood oxygen sensor

We have microphone and speaker, which, linked to the aforementioned functionality, will allow us to make and receive calls, as well as interact with all types of applications that require this fundamental hardware.

Use and autonomy

The Huawei Watch 4 Pro perhaps it is not the most comfortable to train due to its dimensions and weight, especially if, like me, you bet on the 48 millimeter case. Despite this, the Huawei Health application is compatible with Android and iOS interchangeably, as well as with the versions of Harmony OS in which we have tested the device.

We have more than 100 widgets for health services, control of parameters through Health Glance, receiving breathing alerts, sleep control and above all, management of blood oxygen and heart rate.

Huawei Watch 4 Pro

We have two battery modes, the Pro model that we have analyzed offers 21 days in Duration mode, 12 days for typical use, or in reality, in standard use taking advantage of all its functionalities We have been able to go between 4 and 5 days without charging. These recharges will take at most an hour, although in 15 minutes we can charge it approximately 30%, that is, a full day of use.

In short, the Huawei Watch 4 Pro in any of its versions is a device capable of offering everything you would expect from a device with these characteristics, with a spectacular design and a price that will be between 350 and 450 euros depending on the version chosen, in usual points of sale such as the website of Huawei or the Amazon itself, where it is offered with shipping in 24 hours within the Prime service.

There are few reasons that motivate the acquisition of other devices with the same price and functionality, unless you are an Apple user and you are unquestionably directed towards the Apple Watch. For everything else, this Watch 4 Pro offers great autonomy, a great design and features typical of a high-end device.
