Jan Koum, founder and CEO of WhatsApp, steps down

WhatsApp achieves a new record of daily users

The last few months have been very busy for Facebook and the companies belonging to the social network. But it seems that the problems are not over yet. Because now the resignation of the CEO and founder of WhatsApp. We talk about Jan Koum who has just revealed that he is leaving his position at the company he founded. It seems that the tensions and bad relationship with Mark Zuckerberg have a lot to do with this decision.

Since they both have very different opinions on data security, privacy and encryption. It seems that Zuckerberg's latest proposal, to integrate WhatsApp with Facebook, thus eliminating its independence, has not sat well with Jan Koum.

That is why you have made the decision to resign your position at the company. According to some media, Facebook CEO wanted to weaken the encryption system on WhatsApp. In this way, it could have access to user data and use it for commercial purposes. This was not something Koum liked.

Jan Koum

Of course, in his farewell, the CEO of WhatsApp has not mentioned any of these problems or rumors. The tone in which he has said goodbye to the company is very cordial. Zuckerberg himself has also reacted by commenting that he will be missed a lot. As well as mentioning being grateful for how much you have learned.

Jan Koum's resignation becomes the second noticeable loss on WhatsApp since last year. Because in 2017 we saw how Brian Acton left the company after learning of the scandal with the manipulation of user data. So none of the founders of the courier service are already in the company.

This seems to give Zuckerberg free rein to change the course of WhatsApp at will.. Something that many comment will start soon. So we will have to be attentive to the changes that will come to the application in the coming weeks and months and see if there really is a change of direction in it.
