O2 increases fiber speed to 600 Mb symmetric for free

O2 Spain Telefónica

We are not used to giving you this type of news, it is not usual for telephone companies to decide to increase the quality or quantity of a service in a totally disinterested way, and it makes sense, we must bear in mind that deep down they are companies and they need to win something. However, the arrival of O2 in Spain at the hands of Telefónica seems to be turning around everything we understood about a telecommunications company. Now and without prior notice, O2 has decided to double the speed of its customers' fiber optics without any added cost and immediately.

The change will begin reaching O2 customers overnight from February 17 to February 18, and it will be progressive, so you should not get nervous if you see that it takes a little longer than normal. However, and taking into account the performance of O2 to date, you should have 600 Mb symmetric available on your line on the 18th.

It is a definitive change and, of course, it does not affect the price of your rate, which will remain the same as always (...) We will begin to make this increase in speed tomorrow and will be progressively deployed to all our customers, in a process that may last between one and three weeks (…) For legal reasons, you will not see the change in speed reflected in the conditions of your contract until March 18.

This improvement does not imply any increase in cost and it will double the previous 300 Mb of the clients to the current 600 Mb. It is not the first time that O2 has made a move like this, we remember that at its launch its lines had 100 Mb symmetrical, despite the fact that those users who had been enjoying connections with Movistar greater than 100 Mb continued to maintain them, what do you think this free speed boost?
