Philips 273B9, a monitor that enhances teleworking [Analysis]

Philips continues to work with MMD in the development and promotion of PC monitors of all types. In these times, monitors with dimensions between 24 and 27 inches are gaining special prominence por el auge del teletrabajo, y es aquí cuando llegamos desde Actualidad Gadget para ayudarte a elegir del mejor modo.

We bring to the review table the new Philips 273B9, a Full HD monitor with USBC connectivity that will help you power teleworking. We are going to take a more in-depth look at its technical characteristics and especially what our experience has been during the tests carried out.

Materials and design

In this case Philips has opted for a sober design, Although we must say that the firm is usually characterized by the manufacture of devices with little frills in terms of design or materials, this always gives us a plus of reliability, resistance and sobriety for certain work environments.

In this case, Philips has opted for a matte black plastic and ultra-reduced frames for the top and sides. Not so for the lower part where some sensors that we will talk about later are located.

A relatively large base that is mobile and features a small container, ideal for pen geeks. The keypad is located on the lower right and has a simple HUD system that will be shown on the screen when we press each one of them. The connections at the back are all located in the same area.

  • Size: 614 X 372 X 61 mm
  • Weight: 4,59 Kg without stand / 7,03 Kg with stand

The stand is easily anchored simply by means of a sliding button. Once placed we will be able to place the monitor where we want. We have a monitor that looks good in almost any workplace and even in our "home" office.

Convenience for teleworking

The fundamental pillar of the comfort of this monitor is based on the fact that its support will allow us to adjust the height up to 150 millimeters vertically. The articulation will allow us to adjust the monitor around 90 degrees and up to 30 degrees downward inclination relative to vertical.

For its part, the base is mobile, it turns on itself easily, another fundamental pillar when we want to have the monitor in the corner of the table because we work simultaneously with content in paper format as well as digital.

For its part, in the anchoring area of the pedestal we will find four screws that will serve us for the installation of a support with compatibility SPROUT, in other words, traditional measures that are easy to find at any point of sale. However, we found a surprise. Get it at the best price on Amazon (link).

These screws are short-distance, so we can only include a VESA adapter that has the exact measurements, In other words, we will not be able to take advantage of an adapter of several measures because these screws are not long enough. We have solved this problem by acquiring screws of the same size but longer.

Technical characteristics

Now we go to the purely technical, and we are in front of a monitor MMD IPS LCD with 27 inches (68,6 centimeters). It has a matte anti-reflective coating that makes it ideal for all situations, it also prevents fogging by 25%, without a doubt it is a battle monitor that will be easily cleaned.

Regarding the resolution, Philips has opted for 1080p (Full HD) with an intermediate maximum refresh rate that stands at the 75 Hz, this makes us find 4ms delay (gray to gray) and therefore not specially designed for gaming, although it is average, so doing it on this monitor will be relatively pleasant.

  • SmartErgoBase
  • Flicker Free
  • LowBlue mode
  • HDMI ready

Regarding the brightness, it remains in intermediate statistics of 250 nits. We do have 98% of the sRGB profile and 76% from the NTSC.

We go on to highlight the PowerSensor, a system of sensors under the Philips logo that will allow us to detect when we are in front of the monitor and determine when to enter "sleep" mode without the need for us to tell it, which will significantly reduce energy consumption, especially in environments office. We have found that it works more than correct, adjustable in length and customizable.

Multitude of connections and functionalities

Regarding visualization, we are already clear that the work environment is more than covered, however we have much more to talk about. ANDste Philips 273B9 is designed to overcome all kinds of difficulties, and it shows in its connections.

  • HDMI 2.0
  • DisplayPort
  • D-SUB
  • USB-C
  • Audio in / Audio out
  • 2x USB 3.1 with Power Delivery
  • 2x standard USB

The box includes an HDMI port, a DisplayPort and a USB-C with DisplayPort 3.0 technology. Today many notebooks come directly with UBSC ports and nothing else, as in the 16 ″ MacBook Pro that we used for testing, and this has been a huge joy.

The USB-C port of the monitor will provide up to 60W of charge to the laptop that we are connecting, at the same time that it will receive an image in Full HD resolution. However, the thing is not here, we have verified that the Philips 273B9 acts as a HUB port, so we can connect our keyboard and mouse directly to the monitor's USB to operate the notebook, and also connect any type of mass storage.

Editor's opinion

It is clear that we are facing a "battle" monitor, designed to overcome different situations without stagnating in any environment, without shining too much in almost any feature, but offering a compendium of functionalities that is difficult to match in other monitors. The result is a price that, without being prohibitive, is far from the low range. Nevertheless, If we take into account that it acts as a USB-C HUB, which provides a 60W charge to the laptop and has the SmartErgoBase, it seems like a more than good investment.

You can get it on the official website of Philips: directly on Amazon from 285 euros.
