Philips GoZero Water, prepare your own sparkling water

Philips GoZero Soda

Being able to prepare sparkling water at home and without generating waste in the form of plastic bottles while saving good money it's possible thanks to the Philips GoZero Soda Maker. Worth?

Sparkling water is in fashion, at least in Spain, where a few years ago it was not so common to ask for sparkling water instead of a soft drink or beer. Healthy, refreshing and without calories, it is a healthy habit that more and more people include in their daily habits, and thanks to devices like this Philips GoZero it is now also comfortable and more ecological. You will no longer have to buy plastic bottles or carry them home, because with tap water you will get a bottle of sparkling water in just a few seconds, ready to drink and enjoy.

Philips GoZero Soda

Philips has opted for a modern and quality design for this GoZero, made of plastic and steel, which makes it very consistent with the decoration of any kitchen and that we can also place anywhere in it thanks to the fact that it does not need any plug to function, because it does not use electricity at all. It looks like a beer tap, with a black plastic column that houses the gas cylinder that will add carbon dioxide bubbles to our water. That cylinder is included in the GoZero box, and we will have to replace it when it runs out, something that will happen after gasifying about 60 liters of water with normal use. This box also includes a plastic bottle with a 1-liter capacity and BPA-free, which is what we will use to create our sparkling water. The bottle is well finished too, with a clear finish and a steel cap and base. Philips also offers us a bottle with the same design but completely made of steel, which maintains the temperature better than the plastic one, but which we will have to buy separately.

Therefore, in the box we have everything we need for our first sixty liters of sparkling water, we just have to add the water. The procedure to aerate the water is very simple and consists of screwing the bottle into the GoZero and press the big steel button on top for about 3 seconds. We will notice and listen to how the gas passes into the water, and then we will hear a sound of "leaking" gas that will indicate that the procedure has finished. The device has a safety valve for our peace of mind, so there is no risk of frights. After this procedure you will have sparkling water that is perfect for consumption, although if you want more bubbles, you can repeat the procedure. In my opinion, with a single press the water is already perfect, but if you like more intensity, you can get it, although the gas bottle will no longer be enough for the 60 liters established. There are only two things to keep in mind when putting the gas in your water. The first is that you should not fill the bottle beyond the mark indicated on it (or less). The second is that it is recommended that you use already cold water, although this is already everyone's taste.

The screwing of the bottle in the GoZero system is perhaps the only negative point that we can find in this product, since To insert the neck of the bottle into the GoZero thread, you have to make a somewhat strange gesture that some people may find uncomfortable. When we remove the bottle, there will be an inevitable drip of water that will collect the steel grid located at the base of the device, a base that we will have to take care of emptying from time to time because the water will accumulate.

The final result is quite good. Obviously it will depend on the quality of the water that comes out of your tap, which in Spain is usually quite good, but if you are used to consuming bottled water, you can of course use it here as well. The amount of gas in the water is what any bottled sparkling water usually has, although it may lose strength more quickly. I add the gas just when I'm going to consume it, and as a big water drinker, the one-liter bottle lasts quite a short time, so for me this is not a problem. And the taste of the water remains intact, no flavor or smell is added. If you want to add lemon, or any other "dressing" you can do it, but what the manufacturer does not recommend is that you carbonate something other than water.

Philips CO2 gas cylinders they can be purchased on Amazon and are less expensive than Sodastream, perhaps the best-known brand of sparkling water. There are also other "generic" brand cylinders that can be used, but their price and life is about the same as the official cylinders, so it's not really worth looking beyond the official solution.

Editor's opinion

With a beautiful design and everything you need to create your own sparkling water, the Philips GoZero system is an excellent option for those of us who consume sparkling water on a regular basis. Cheaper, more comfortable and more ecological by not generating plastic waste, there is no reason to continue buying bottled sparkling water. The price of the complete kit is €79,99 on Amazon (link).
