Philips Momentum 279M1RV, designed for Xbox

The monitor is perhaps one of the most important aspects in the day to day of those who spend long hours of work or leisure on the PC. At this point, the choice of the screen can mark a before and after not only in how we consume content but also in the way we use the hardware that we have available, and that is why Philips is a good option.

We take an in-depth look at the Philips Momentum 279M1RV, an alternative up to 144 Hz and designed for your Xbox. Discover with us all the features, functionalities and performance of this gaming monitor.

Before starting, we remind you that you can buy this monitor at the best price in Amazon and other common outlets. You can leave us any questions about it in the comment box, we will be happy to answer you.

Materials and design

As you well know, the Philips Momentum range has a very marked design for its entire catalog and this one was not going to be an exception. At this point we find a monitor with some dimensions with support of 609 x 545 x 282 millimeters, what is translated into screen size is about 27 inches effectively.

It is not an excessively large monitor, nor is it small. A good alternative to play games of all kinds, whether with an Xbox, a PlayStation or a PC, since its characteristics match in this sense with the expected demands of the users it is focused on.

We have a height-adjustable support that we will talk about later, which in turn has a tilt system for more comfort. It is made of polycarbonate, while the plastic remains in its black tones, the pedestal, which is in one piece, gives us a slightly more premium feeling of construction considering that we are dealing with a high-performance monitor.

In the rear part we have the configuration joystick, the multiple connections it has as well as the quick coupling system for its pedestal, which in turn has the necessary holes to install a VESA support, although due to its location, it will not be compatible with the most universal and therefore cheap models.

  • 100 x 100 millimeter VESA mount

It has a fairly thin current input port, so it is understandable that we have an external power supply that we must place under the table.

Technical Specifications

In the technical section we have a monitor with an LCD panel with Samsung's own Nano IPS technology. For lighting, it uses the White LED system that in our tests has been able to adjust the zones well to try to offer the purest possible blacks. As we have said, we work on a panel of 27 inches which translates to 68,5 centimeters with its 16:9 aspect ratio.

The maximum resolution that the monitor will offer us will be 3840 x 2160 at 144 Hz if we use an HDMI or DisplayPort cable, which will go down to 3840 x 2160 with 120 Hz in case we use the USB-C connection.

  • SmartContrast Mega Infinity DCR System
  • Contrast 1000: 1
  • Viewing angles: 178º
  • Flicker Free

The response time of 1ms has delighted our tests in Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2, Although its maximum brightness is not too high, it remains at 450 cd/m2, so it is recommended that we take its location into account. and we avoid, as far as possible, direct sources of natural light in order to make the most of its functionalities. In our daily use we have not found any problems in this regard.

In this aspect we have HDR600 certification so presumed that we are not facing a 10-bit panel, something that we can understand if we take into account that they have reinforced the gaming position and this would affect both the input lag and its refresh rate.

  • AmbiGlow LED content lighting system

In another order of things, taking into account that we have a LowBlue mode and availability of the entire sRGB spectrum, We are facing a monitor that also delights while we work. For my part, I have been taking advantage of these features in video and photo editing tasks without any problem.

Connectivity and comfort

The connections are especially important, especially if we want the monitor to be versatile, and this is the case with the Philips Momentum that we are analyzing, since we have an infinity of them:

  • Three state-of-the-art HDMI 2.1 ports
  • One DisplayPort 1.4 port
  • One USB-C port with DisplayPort Alt mode and PowerDelivery up to 65W
  • One USB-B port out
  • Four USB 3.2 ports, two of them with BC 1.2 fast charging
  • Headphone jack 3,5 millimeters

In this regard, we must bear in mind that each of these ports has separate timing system, so in our analysis we have not suffered interference problems. we have turn two 5W speakers with DTS Sound technology that do not do justice to the great performance of the image.

performance analysis

The monitor has offered us spectacular performance. We have run the tests on PS5 for games like Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, where it has shown its performance at maximum resolution and with the highest refresh rate available from the video console. The same has happened when we have moved to a strategy game like Cities Skylines on PC, offering very good resolution and color adjustment.

The most surprising thing has been its performance in image and video editing, where it has shown colors with great fidelity, a good system that has helped us on a day-to-day basis and that, honestly, has shown me to be versatile both to play as a Cossack and to work with dedication and good results.

The price is not low around 900 euros depending on the point of sale selected, but with the guarantees of connectivity and functionality that a veteran brand such as Philips can offer us. Thus, this Philips Momentum is up to rivals such as the Samsung Oddysey and other ASUS alternatives, so considering the price and that it is not a product for everyone, we recommend it.
