Uber is always on the cutting edge of the news, and although in this case the story is more about people than companies, the truth is that it takes the cake. The woman who was raped by her driver in India in 2014 has sued the company for improperly obtaining and sharing her medical records, all allegedly.

At the institutional level, Uber has shown all its support to the victim and has publicly stated that he will do "everything to help bring the [culprit] to justice." Meanwhile, the accused of the rape, who you can see in the image that illustrates this post, was prosecuted and sentenced to life imprisonment.

The lawsuit originated from a news item published in is based on Recode and in The New York Times at the beginning of June, in which it was revealed that Uber executive Eric Alexander had obtained the reports of the medical examination carried out on the victim after the sexual assault. It is not yet clear whether or not he obtained those reports legally, however, he allegedly shared them with company chief Travis Kalanick and executive Emil Michael.

Both Alexander and Michael were recently fired, while Kalanick is currently on leave; at the same time, the company is conducting an in-depth review of its work culture after being accused of fostering a toxic and sexist environment. The three executives reportedly speculated that the victim had conspired with Uber's main rival in India, Ola, to organize the incident and sabotage the service.

When asked for a comment on the facts, an Uber spokesperson said that "No one should have to go through a horrible experience like this, and we really regret that she had to relive it in recent weeks."
