Realme GT Neo2, a powerful alternative in the mid-range

We bring you again a product of the brand faithful to the value for money that recently arrived in Spain in order to stand up to the queen of cheapness, Xiaomi. We speak as it could not be otherwise about Relame, a firm that is maintaining a catalog of launches that is quite full of news despite the current crisis of semiconductors and other products.

We present the new Realme GT Neo2, the latest launch of the company that we analyzed in depth and tested so you can see if it will really mark a before and after in the mid-range.

Design and materials: One of lime and one of sand

In this regard, let's say that Realme continues on its already established path, The GT Neo2 bets on a rear very similar to the previous ones although it gives the impression of being made of glass on this occasion, which does not lead to having wireless charging, mainly because the edges of the device are made of plastic as has been customary for the brand so far. In the front area we have the new 6,6-inch panel with quite narrow edges, but far from what other product ranges offer, especially taking into account the asymmetry between the upper and lower.

  • Colors: Bright blue, GT green and black.

Now much flatter edges, the USB-C being relegated to the bottom, without a 3,5mm Jack on this occasion, while we have the "power" button on the right side and the volume buttons on the left. All this to offer us dimensions of 162,9 x 75,8 x 8,6 mm and a total weight that will touch 200 grams, It is not light considering that it is made of plastic, we imagine that the size of the battery will have a lot to do with this. Otherwise, a well-finished device with an interesting color palette.

Technical characteristics

We start with Realme's favorite points, the fact of betting on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 870 de It gives a good sign that we should not skimp on power, to control it we have a Realme own heat dissipation system whose benefits have already been demonstrated by many versions of devices back. At the graphic level, it is accompanied by the Adreno 650 of recognized capacity, and 8 or 12 GB of LPDDR5 RAM depending on the device that we have decided to purchase. The test sample for this review is 8GB of RAM.

  • Battery that has offered us more than a full day of use.

We have two storage options, 128 GB and 256 GB respectively with UFS 3.1 technology whose performance is more than proven as the best storage alternative for Android devices. So far everything is ideal as you can see, we have a good memory, a powerful hardware and many promises, we will see which of them are fulfilled and which are not. The truth is that the device moves lightly with everything that we put in front of it, it does mount a layer of personalization, Realme UI 2.0 that continues to drag a series of bloatware that we do not quite understand in a device with these characteristics, however, we can get rid of it with sovereign ease.

Multimedia and connectivity

Its 6,6-inch AMOLED screen stands out, we have FullHD + resolution with a refresh rate of no less than 120 Hz (600 Hz in the case of touch refresh). This offers us in a 20: 9 format a good brightness (up to 1.300 nits at maximum peak) and a good color adjustment. Without a doubt, the screen seems to me to be one of the highlights of this Realme GT Neo2. Obviously we have compatibility with HDR10 +, Dolby Vision and finally Dolby Atmos through its "stereo" speakers, we put quotation marks because the lower one has a noticeable greater capacity than the front one.

Regarding connectivity, although we say goodbye to the 3,5 mm Jack, A hallmark of the brand (perhaps this is the reason why we have included some Buds Air 2 in the press pack). We obviously have connectivity Dual SIM for mobile data, which reaches heights of speeds 5G as expected, all accompanied by Bluetooth 5.2 and most importantly, we also enjoy 6 WiFi which in my tests has offered high speed, great performance and stability. Finally accompany GPS and NFC how could it be otherwise.

Photographic section, the great disappointment

Realme cameras are still far from the competition, as much as they put sensors imitating being large (with very pronounced black frames), they are far from the excellence offered by the performance of the software in general. This is when you remember that you are facing a mid-range device. We have a main sensor that defends well in favorable lighting conditions, which suffers with contrasts, but stabilizes the video well. The Wide Angle has notorious difficulties in low light and also with lighting contrasts, the Macro is an add-on that offers absolutely nothing to the experience.

  • Main: 64 MP f / 1.8
  • Wide Angle: 8MP f / 2.3 119º FOV
  • Macro: 2MP f / 2.4

We have a 16 MP Selfie camera (f / 2.5) that has an intrusive beauty mode but that, unlike the rear ones, offers good results within what is expected. The portrait mode, whatever the camera used, has excessively intrusive software and is capable of capturing very little light than expected, so its use is not recommended. It is curious that the most remarkable thing is the video with an Artificial Intelligence system for stabilization, something that I found to be of the highest quality.

Editor's opinion

As long as the photographic section is not very necessary for you (in this case I invite you to the high end) this Realme GT Neo2 offers good performance thanks to its AMOLED panel with a high refresh rate, the UFS 3.1 memory and the recognized processor , the Snapdragon 870. In the rest of the sections it does not stand out, nor does it pretend, for something it is a terminal that starts from the following prices:
