Realme Watch 2, the low-cost entry-level alternative to wearables

Realme continues to bet on offering an adjusted value for money in its devices and stand up to Xiaomi in a territory in which it seemed to dominate alone. As its rival does, Realme has been entering more and more diverse product ranges, and watches were not going to be the exception.

We take an in-depth look at the new Realme Watch 2, the cheapest version of the Realme watch to attract users to its first wearable. Discover with us the experience we have had facing the watch of the Asian company and if it is really worth it for its low cost.

As usual, we have accompanied this analysis with a small video from our channel of UAF YouTube, in it you will be able to appreciate the complete unboxing of the Realme Watch 2 as well as the first and easy configuration steps. Take the opportunity to subscribe to our channel UAF YouTube because that way you can help us to continue growing and bringing you the most honest analysis on the web. If you liked it, the price on Amazon is so low that it will surprise you.

Design: The bracelet that wanted to be a smart watch

In terms of manufacture, we are surprised by the extreme lightness of this Realme Watch, it is built in "jet black" plastic, the kind that has a special attraction to scratches. In appearance it is a watch, with a traditional shape and size for what a smartwatch is, however, as soon as we turn it on we realize that much of the front is a bezel, I estimate that approximately 35% if not more, and that is due to its small 1,4-inch panel for dimensions of 257.6 x 35.7 x 12.2 millimeters. As we have said, the weight is surprisingly low, only 38 grams that make you feel, Ned Flanders style, like you're wearing nothing.

It has a single side button made of a different plastic, with a sufficient route for traditional use and that serves to calm our cravings.

We have a single position magnetized charging base, With two metal pins, it works properly and has a sufficient length. It has a 22-millimeter strap made of silicone with a somewhat peculiar closure. The measure is sufficient and spare for most dolls, although its elasticity can make you by mistake, as happened to us, you tighten it more than necessary. An off-road strap for regular use which has a universal "hook", in principle we will be able to place almost the one we want, although Realme is sure to launch different straps throughout the useful life of the device.

Connectivity and sensors

Realme has not made public data regarding the processor, RAM and storage of this Realme Watch. Regarding the latter, we imagine that it is just enough to have different customizable spheres, at least taking into account that the management of multimedia content is limited to the remote control of the synchronized mobile device. For all this, it uses Bluetooth 5.0 with an easy connection via Realme Link, which we remember, is compatible with both Android and iOS.

It has a three axis accelerometer to calculate the movement well and to monitor our workouts as exhaustively as possible. We have at the same time the classic heart rate sensor and is complemented by a oxygen saturation sensor in blood so common these days. Few more capabilities can we mention, we do not have WiFi or GPS, obviously we forget about LTE or any other wireless technology, but of course, we are talking about a device whose price is ridiculous, Nobody could ask you for absolutely anything more than what you have in the technical section. It is worth mentioning that its brother "Pro" is capable of GPS geopositioning itself.

Screen and autonomy

We found a panel of de 1,4 inches, offers a total resolution of 320 x 320 pixels, that is, a density of 323 pixels per inch. It is surprising that the resolution being slightly lower than that of the brother "Pro", offers a pixel density significantly higher than that of the "expensive" version of the device. The screen offers different brightness settings for its LCD panel, in our tests it has shown more than enough For outdoor uses of all kinds, defending itself correctly both when displaying content and when interacting with it, it responds correctly to physical interactions.

As for the battery, we have 315 mAh which offer a theoretical uptime according to Realme of around 12 days, in our tests we have reached the tenth day without problems, Although the levels promised by the brand have not been reached, it does stay quite close, it will depend on the use made of the device by each user. The full charge will take us a little over an hour.

User experience

We have found a device that has the basic functionalities well marked, even if you have an advanced smartwatch you will know that 90% of what you use is in this Realme Watch 2, although the experience, yes, is clearly low-cost. We have a weather forecast system, more than 90 different types of training and the basic measures for regular sports monitoring, all this is shown in Realme Link, an application that offers a summary and quite limited look, but that will allow us to change the spheres quickly.

  • Weather forecast (not yet correctly translated into Spanish)
  • Hydration reminders
  • Find phone mode
  • Movement reminders
  • Camera remote control
  • Daily Step Goal Completion Reminder
  • Music control
  • Meditation assistant
  • SpO2
  • Heart rate

The device has IP68 water resistance, Although it is not designed to swim with it, it will be resistant to basic splashes, so it will withstand our training without any problem.

Editor's opinion

We have, as we have said before, a bracelet that wants to be a watch. The screen has a somewhat larger square design than usual, but the functions do not go beyond what is offered by the alternative in price, the Xiaomi Mi Band 6. If you want a device with clock aesthetics and basic functionalities, For the 50 euros it costs, there are few alternatives like the Realme Watch 2.
