We analyze the new iPhone 8 Plus in detail

We tested the iPhone 8 Plus Although the iPhone X is the most anticipated iPhone in recent times, a new iPhone that is redesigned by removing the edges we were used to to follow in the wake of others like Samsung and their smartphones without borders on the screen. A renewal of Apple that has not come alone, Apple has also launched the iPhone 8, a continuous iPhone that follows the same pattern as its previous version, the iPhone 7 ...

But obviously, Apple couldn't bring the same device to market as last year. The iPhone 8 is a renovationYes, it has changes in its design, and even more obvious changes in its interior. If you are thinking of renewing your old iPhone for a new iPhone 8, and thus avoid the long wait that the iPhone X will bring (in addition to saving you some euros), the iPhone 8 is a great option. We have tested it and can confirm that The iPhone 8 brings us the same design as the iPhone 7 but it comes with a battery of great changes. After the jump we tell you all about the new Apple iPhone 8 Plus.

Conservative in design, modern in concept

All the reviews of this iPhone 8 (as we said we have tested the iPhone 8 Plus) they have focused on a design that Apple has been dragging from the old iPhone 6, iPhone that was a change at the design level but that Apple has dragged during the following four iPhones. A fairly comfortable design that some qualify as a "surfboard" design because of its shape. However, the design improves from my point of view, the back is built in glass And that reminds us a lot of the iPhone 4, one of the best designed iPhones.

No, don't worry about the rear glass, we already know that repairing it has a higher cost than the screen, but Apple tells us that this is the strongest glass ever mounted on a smartphone (They have designed it together with the guys from Corning), obviously, be careful, you don't have to throw it down either. The truth is that the crystal gives an incredible touch, and aesthetically, even if you end up putting a cover on it, it looks pretty good; More than one person has asked me if I had a polycarbonate case on the back when wearing it without a cover. The front part continues to be continuous with the classic edges that change color depending on the version of iPhone we take: the Space Gray (the one you see in the photos) has a black front, the Gold or Silver color is white.

If there something that I do not like, as in previous models, is that the camera sticks out. In the Plus model, we have two cameras as happened in the iPhone 7 Plus, and both stand out ... It must be said that Apple has solved the integration of an aluminum edge in the glass quite well, they could have built the ledge in glass, but obviously it would be a problem in the face of breaking, not to mention costs ...

And then going into details tell you that the box itself of the device, the packaging with which they give it to you, varies according to the color of the device. In addition, Apple has eliminated many of the logos that you saw on the back of the device, consumption control logos by territorial areas, now we will see those that correspond to the place where we buy it, and in the US for example it is no longer necessary to print none.

The big iPhone 8 camera in our pocket

If you want some reason to get this new iPhone 8, the camera is the one you needed. The camera of this new iPhone 8 improves substantially, obviously it is not something hyper-remarkable, but if you come from an iPhone with a camera, going to the Plus version is a big change. Apple has renewed the cameras of the iPhone 8 at the hardware level with optics that have ƒ / 1,8 and ƒ / 2,8, something that is quite noticeable when we take pictures with fair light conditions. I also found the new one very interesting slow sync flash, a new way of taking flash photography that will make both the subject you photograph and the background are illuminated, something that substantially improves taking pictures with a device like an iPhone.

The great novelty of the iPhone 7 Plus was the new portrait mode, the novelty of this new iPhone 8 is putting a twist on portrait mode with Portrait Lighting, The possibility of illuminate the portraits we make according to various configurations similar to those that could be given in a photography studio, obviously saving distances. Thanks to be able to capture more light, to the new ISP (image signal processor) designed by Apple's own guys, and obviously to iOS 11 software, now we can make portraits look much more. The people you photograph will be enhanced by these new lighting settings.

This new ISP will also allow us to take almost instantaneous photographs, you hardly notice the lag between pressing the shutter and the photograph being taken. Not to mention that now we can make videos in 4K at 60fps, something that will make the movements much more fluid (they give a very interesting look in the videos we have made), in addition to being able to record slow motion at 240fps in 1080p, although in this case it must be said that we have not noticed much improvement in terms of resolution.

The brain of everything is called A11 Bionic

And finally, not least, is the new processor that Apple has designed, a processor shared by the iPhone 8 and iPhone X. They have called it A11 Bionic, Bionic for the comprehension capabilities it has for carry out the lighting of portraits that we were talking about, as it is specially designed for Augmented Reality (next to the cameras the sensation of reality that we see with this new iPhone 8 is incredible), and obviously because of the new Face ID that we will see on the iPhone X.

There is a great improvement in all aspects at the level of processor speed. Everything works much smoother with iOS 11 although it is true that both iOS 11.0.1 (the latest version) and its previous version (the GM that we saw after the summer betas), are not very fine. We just installed 11.1 iOS Beta 1, and despite being a Beta version we've found it works even better.

The most affordable option

I wanted to close with a new reason to checkout for this new iPhone 8: the screen. If it is true that It is not the OLED we see in the iPhone X, but it is also true that it is a Retina HD display that Apple has tested for quite some time, also now they allow us to use the option True Tone, a new setting that allows us to vary the color temperature that shows us according to the lighting conditions in which we find ourselves. A great screen that improves considering the previous versions of iPhone.

I recommend the iPhone 8 if you come from a model before the iPhone 7If you are on the iPhone 7 you can still wait for next year if you do not want to pay the money that the iPhone X costs, however if you have never had a Plus version, the new iPhone 8 Plus is a great option. We do not want to forget to tell you that this time Apple has reduced the 64Gb and 256Gb sales capacities, we have the 64Gb version and more than enough. Encourage you to stop by an Apple Store to touch it and see it with your own eyes, it will surprise you.
