Review of the Acer Revo One RL85, a mini PC with little "mini"

acer-revo-one

Today there are many brands of computers, that is no secret. The problem is that there are some computers that are supposed to be a good brand and do not last as long as we would like. I have not had this problem personally in any of the laptops Acer that I had. Right now I am writing to you from an Aspire One D250 that is already in its years and I have no complaints. That's why this review I start it a bit conditioned by my good experiences with Acer.

That said, if you are very demanding users, without a doubt, the best thing is a desktop computer and forget about laptops. Laptops are fine, but they are more expensive and more limited than "tower" computers. If you don't want a large tower, the best thing to do is buy a Mini PC, which is the same but with more modest hardware in less space. A great (good) Mini PC is the Acer RevoOne RL85, a computer with a large-capacity hard drive that will allow us to save everything we imagine and, best of all, we can access our data from anywhere in the world.

Box contents

  • Acer RevoOne RL85.
  • Power cord.
  • Keyboard / controller.

Integrated

As you can see in the images, Acer has not wanted to make a tower that looks like a computer. Looking at the RL85 it seems that what they wanted is that this Mini PC does not look bad, for example, next to a television. Its rounded shapes and size remind us of some ornaments that we put on any table, so we can be sure that the RL85 will not attract negative attention wherever we put it.

Performance

The performance of the RL85 seems very good to me. It is true that help that you have installed Windows 10, but we cannot say that this computer comes with limited hardware. The 8GB of RAM and the dual Intel Core i3 2.10GHz processor will be sufficient for the vast majority of users but, logically, a mini PC is not thought to be the best equipment for the latest video games.

In the time that I have used it, I have never noticed that the system feels heavy beyond a few longer starts than I would like. Anyway, this is a user who usually uses a light version of Ubuntu and is used to quick starts.

Extras

Keyboard / Controller

command-acer-revo-one

The Acer Revo One RL85, as we have already said, is a mini PC. The mini computers, as I have already mentioned in the contents of the box, come "bare" without any peripherals. Keyboard, mouse, and screen must be purchased separately. In any case, in some models of the superiors a keyboard the size of a controller (a bit big) with two sides: one side with a keyboard with everything you need to type and a remote more similar to a television in case we have our computer connected to the TV in our living room and we want to use it as a set-top box. It also has a microphone, in case we want to ask Cortana for something.

Acer Applications

If we do not want to use the remote, there is also an application available for iOS and Android that will allow us control our Acer Revo One remotely. The bad thing about applications is that they only work if we don't update the operating system, and this Revo One has already been updated to me. If we look for the server application, which is the one that has to be installed on the computer, we will not find it. This application is only installed on computers out of the box.

The application is no longer available in the App Store

But the best thing is, perhaps, to use this mini PC as personal cloud. If we enter the page of their abApps We will see that there are four applications available:

  • abPhoto
  • abMusic
  • abDocs
  • abFiles

Although each one has its reason for being, the one that is really interesting for me is the last one, abFiles. Since abFiles We can access the hard drive of our Acer Revo One from anywhere in the world, as long as we are connected to the internet, of course. It is not an application that allows us to control the desktop remotely, but rather we can navigate through the folders on the entire hard drive of our computer. The best thing is that from the same application we can listen to music, watch videos and open documents. For example, if we go on a trip and want to see a movie that we have stored in our Revo One, we can watch it from our smartphone or tablet with the abFiles app. It's good, no?
