Roborock's Onyx Dump Station makes it easy [Review]

We have recently analyzed here the Roborock S7, a robot vacuum cleaner that also scrubs and offers truly spectacular results. To date, the best value for money robot vacuum we've reviewed to the channel. However, bordering on perfection for a small detail, self-emptying stations are increasingly necessary.

Roborock has introduced the new self-emptying station and we have analyzed it in depth for you to take a look at this Roborock S7 add-on. Discover with us how the maintenance of your robot vacuum cleaner is reduced to a minimum and you can take advantage of the time you do not waste emptying the device.

It is the great Achilles heel of this type of devices, when to empty them. The deposit gives for what it gives, and when you have pets (as is my case) it gives exactly for a couple of cleanings at most. Therefore, every time I want to reactivate my Roborock S7, I have to remember whether or not I have emptied its tank. This will now become a much less common problem thanks to this device we are testing, this self-emptying station that Roborock has adapted to its most advanced vacuum cleaner and that immediately becomes one of its best allies.

Materials and design: Roborock style

The Roborock S7 self-emptying station, how could it be otherwise, comes in two colors, black and white, matching the color of your robot vacuum cleaner. It has a standard and somewhat raised base, in the same way that it has a double cylinder system that houses the tank and the suction motor. For the rest, this dock performs exactly the same functions as the charging stations, that is, it can connect your robot to power to proceed with charging the device.

  • Weight: 5,5 Kilograms
  • Size: 31.4 x 45.7 x 38.3 centimeters
  • Available colors: White and black

It has a cable catcher at the back, so that you can place it indistinctly in any position, something very welcome. At the bottom it has some roughness that helps the device go up the small ramp, in the same way that it takes advantage of to clean the charging pins with a kind of brushes strategically placed for this purpose. Without a doubt, we will easily relate it to the brand due to its dimensions and its design, so it fully matches what you would expect from a Roborock S7 companion.

Garbage and dust collection systems

This first section is very important, in fact it seems to me the most important and that is why it is time to talk at length about it. You already know that the vast majority of these auto-emptying stations require a series of "bags" that usually have a proprietary design, and that without them they are of little to nothing. However, this Roborock S7 self-emptying station allows you two mechanisms for removing and storing dirt:

  • In hermetic tank through cyclonic suction system
  • In a «dust catcher» bag

Indeed, Whether or not to use the Roborock S7 tank bag is an option. Although it is true that this bag is specifically designed for dust and allows us to empty the station without having to remove the tank, it is not an essential element.

The dust bag has a capacity of 1,8 liters and it seals automatically. We put it in the upper location using the cardboard guide and extract it through the lower one when sealing. This bag has an antibacterial treatment to always ensure a hygienic environment.

Apart from this, you can go directly for the multi-cyclone design (with 15 points) with various speeds that will allow you to empty the Roborock S7 tank easily. We have four powers depending on the noise and the energy consumption that we estimate:

  • Smart
  • Lightweight
  • Intermediate
  • Maximum

I recommend the maximum, even if the noise can rise more than normal, here the important thing is to empty the robot correctly, and that is what it does. This tank has a standard filter and two more filters that ensure a complete seal so that dust does not escape. It goes without saying that all these filters can be removed and can be easily cleaned under the tap, although our test has not been so long as for it. In the event that we opt for emptying through the multi-cylinder suction system, we will have a 1,5 liter tank, somewhat lower than that of the dust-trapping bag.

  • The tank capacity is around four weeks

The combination of all these technologies make it a unique device, as there are no more robot vacuum cleaner auto-emptying systems that allow the use of both a bag and a standardized tank interchangeably. For all this, and taking into account the above, it has received various certifications at TÜV Rheinland regarding the improvement of the living conditions of allergy sufferers.

With smart connection

How could it be otherwise, the self-emptying station of the Roborock S7 connects with the Roborock application in the same terms as the robot vacuum cleaner. In theory it takes advantage of an algorithm created by the brand to adapt the emptying to the requirements of the user's cleaning habits, but I have not noticed too much difference. We can control the process and the power of the emptying easily with the application integrating correctly, it is true that we do not miss more functionalities either.

User Experience

As happened at the time with the Roborock S7, the experience that the new auto-emptying station has given me has been remarkably good. Personally I prefer the cyclonic emptying system in the tank in order to avoid creating more dirt with the bag and to minimize maintenance, however, it does make it easier to remove the dirt by using your bags that are properly sealed.

The robot has been launched at a price that around 299 euros, it can be purchased from now on Geekbuying, although it is expected to reach the usual points of sale soon. Whether or not it is worth the investment to avoid the constant emptying, I leave it in your hands.
