How to save the life of your smartphone when it has gotten wet

Smartphone Water

Not too long ago, on one of those days when you wake up in a bad mood and where everything goes wrong with every step you take, I was reading the most important news of the day on my smartphone. In one carelessness my coffee cup slipped from my hand, the planets all lined up to wreck my day, and my smartphone ended up drenched in coffee. Of course my mobile device is not resistant to water, much less to coffee.

This can happen to anyone, I told myself to console myself, and I know that worse things have happened to many, among which I would highlight that the smartphone falls into the bathroom, that it ends up in the washing machine or like that of my sister dragged forever by the sea . My sister never managed to recover her Samsung Galaxy S2, but in case you have managed to get it out of the water today we are going to teach you in a simple way how to save the life of your smartphone when it has gotten wet.

All the methods that we are going to show you in this article are quite useful, but not infallible. If your smartphone has been submerged in the bath for several days, I am very afraid that you will have to buy a new one because none of the methods that we are going to show you will be useful.

Don't do this with your smartphone wet or soaked

Wet smartphone

  • If it was off, don't turn it on, leave it as it is.
  • Don't try to touch all the keys or buttons.
  • If you are not an expert, do not start to disassemble your mobile device because the easiest thing is that you will end up invalidating its warranty. If you have any knowledge and you think you can solve problems, take it easy and be very careful.
  • Don't shake it, don't shake itIn this way, the water will not come out if it has reached its interior and can be harmful to the device.
  • Do not use the hair dryer to try to dry your terminal. This has the opposite effect and the only thing it usually does is that it carries the water or liquid that has leaked into your device to other areas where it had not yet reached.
  • Lastly, do not apply heat to your smartphone because it can overheat some of its components and damage them. It goes without saying that you should not put your terminal in any case in the microwave or freezer.

Some of these things that we have just indicated seem entirely logical, but when our mobile device gets wet, we try to solve it as soon as possible, sometimes making illogical decisions that only make the situation a little more complicated.

First steps to resuscitate your mobile device

Now that we know what we should not do, we are going to get to work to try to make our terminal safe, wet inside and out.

  • If your smartphone had a cover on, remove it immediately. Also remove the microSD card and SIM card.
  • If your mobile device was not turned off, turn it off right now and place it in the vertical position so that in the event that there is water inside, it will go down and have the possibility of leaving by itself
  • In the case that your smartphone is not unibody, remove the back cover and battery so that it is not affected by the liquid that roams freely inside our mobile

Battery

  • The time has come to start taking measures to prevent water from continuing to endanger the future of our mobile device. Grab a paper or a towel and let it be your terminal carefully. Be very careful not to move your smartphone too much so that the water does not reach other areas where it has not yet reached.
  • If your smartphone has taken a long bath in the bathtub or in the washing machine, a towel or cloth won't do you much good, so it's a better idea. look for a small vacuum cleaner that allows you to very carefully suck up the liquid.
  • Although many users still believe that the myth of rice to save a mobile device from water is false, it is not. If you have rice at home, put your terminal in a plastic bag full of rice. If you don't have rice, run to the first supermarket to buy a package. Leave it there for a few hours or even a day or two.
  • If the liquid looks like it has reached the bowels of the terminal, perhaps the rice will not help us much. There are currently on the market drying bag for smartphones. If you have one at home, since you are a very cautious user, put it in it right away. If you have the option to buy it quickly, do it, since it can save you having to buy a new mobile.

After taking care of and pampering your mobile device, the time has come to check if we have managed to save our precious device. Check if it turns on and if it does, check that everything works in a more or less normal way.

In most occasions If the liquid that has fallen and soaked your terminal is not too "aggressive", surely you will not have any problem with your mobile working again perfectly. Most of the terminals that are sold today in the market can perfectly withstand a little water and even the occasional dip.

The coffee bath that my mobile device suffered left some stain that took me a lot of work to clean, but the smartphone worked again without any problem. Of course, I will have to buy a new one drying bag and is that a cautious person is worth two.

If your smartphone does not work, try to charge it because it may be that after leaving it for a few days drying it has run out of battery. In the event that it does not load, we are facing two possible problems. The first of them is that the battery has been damaged by water, so we must buy a new one, in the event that we can extract it from the terminal.

If after changing the battery, in the event that we can do so, our mobile device still does not work, it is time to observe a minute of silence for it and start looking on the Internet for a new smartphone so as not to be cut off any longer . You can always take it in a desperate attempt to an expert or repair shopBut in these cases and with fluids involved, there is usually little hope for full repair.

Hello everyone, I dropped my Galaxy S4 smartphone in the toilet, (yes in the battery) and it was covered entirely with water. I managed to get it to work by putting it a meter or so away from the dryer, with heat and at minimum for 4 hours then I did not turn it on until the next day
