Sonos Move, the new Sonos speaker goes abroad

Sonos continues to work to offer a good battle of alternatives in terms of intelligent and high quality sound, we have had the pleasure of analyzing many of their devices and this time they could not miss their latest launch, the Sonos Move. We talk about the new Sonos outdoor speaker with independent battery and now also with Bluetooth, stay for its in-depth analysis. As always, we are going to tell you about the key points of this peculiar device that has given an important twist in Sonos policy so far, and that is that they do not have Bluetooth devices in their catalog, much less with battery.

As on other occasions, We accompany this analysis with a video in which you will be able to see the unboxing, the content of the box and of course how this Sonos Move is configured and performs, a good opportunity to take a look just before following this in-depth analysis and with technical data directly on this website.

Sonos Move technical characteristics

Before we start to analyze the design, let's take a look at the technical data, we find a speaker that has two class D digital amplifiers, a tweeter, a mid-woofer and four microphones with which we can interact. It has connectivity Bluetooth 4.2, WiFi 802.11 b / g / n, and AVRCP, SBC and AAC support. Of course, on a technical level, this Sonos Move should not lack anything and it seems that it will.

We do not have technical data at the power level in decibels, as is usual for the brand, however what I can guarantee you is that it sounds strong, and a lot. It is something relatively similar to what we have been enjoying for example in a Sonos One until now, So in principle we do not find compelling reasons to doubt its power, the first tests we have carried out have been satisfactory. To charge its battery (2.500 mAh) we will use a connection USB-C and a 100-240V charging base.

Design: In line with what the brand had been doing

We find a product that measures 240 x 160 x 126 millimeters, that has a recognizable design and that quickly evokes us to the Sonos One. For this it has a total weight of 3 Kg including the battery, It is definitely not the lightest product on the market considering that its reason for being is portability, but we must mention that weight is a hallmark of quality speakers.

At the top we have the Classic Sonos Status Indicator LED, as well as the sliding touch control to manage multimedia content. This is how we are going to be able to interact with it easily, but what I must highlight the most about its design is precisely the fact that Sonos has opted to make it recognizable, if you have contact with the brand you will quickly recognize its materials. On the back, in addition to the USB-C connection we have a small opening to transport it, the on / off button and a wireless button.

Built to last: IP56 and removable battery

As a good outdoor speaker that it is, it must have specific characteristics to ensure its resistance, and that is that outside there can be many situations that put the integrity of the device at risk. As a general rule, Sonos manufactures its devices, such as the Sonos One, with certain resistance characteristics. This Sonos Move could not be less, IP56 certification that prevents dust particles and of course also splashes, although we will not be able to guarantee that it remains intact if we submerge it completely.

Another relevant factor for durability is the fact that Sonos has decided to bet on including a 2.500 mAh removable battery, What does this mean? Well, precisely that its durability is not going to be subject to the health of the battery, which is usually the first thing that usually fails. In this case Sonos assures us that we can purchase the battery separately, whether we want to have a reserve battery to extend its autonomy, or if what we really want is to replace it Because it has lost qualities and autonomy, it seems very right to me, besides changing it is very easy and charging it too, its charging "base", which is actually a small ring with USB-C connection is extremely simple and by placing it on top we will have the necessary autonomy It can also be used with it connected, of course.

The old Sonos, now with Bluetooth

We have, how could it be otherwise with Air Play 2, connectivity with more than 100 streaming music services thanks to the Sonos application and we also have four microphones, which are intended to offer us absolute compatibility with the two main virtual assistants on the market, Alexa and Google Assistant, although for this we will require a WiFi connection. No sign, yes, of the ability to answer calls. Refering to autonomy, important in this type of product, Sonos wants us to guarantee up to 10 hours of playback, in standard conditions with Bluetooth we have easily reached 9 o'clock, this decreases if we use WiFi, obviously.

This WiFi connection is usually not available outdoors, so we will have a Bluetooth 4.2 connection in a simple way, to send music and control it. This makes it extremely versatile and represents a before and after at Sonos. We have found that the Bluetooth connection is as simple as you would expect from Sonos, and on iOS devices we can even check the autonomy of the speaker.

Editor's opinion

With the Sonos Move we found the most versatile speaker of Sonos, they had never made a device like this before and they definitely did not want it to be missing absolutely nothing in it. This has a price, 399 euros is exactly what the Sonos Move counts, and it is quite an expensive price. As on many occasions I have said that the price offered by the Sonos Beas or the Sonos One seems cheap, I have to say that the Sonos Move seems expensive to me, I am clear that it offers the possibility of being another Sonos at home with the addition to be able to get it out of the house, but I find it difficult to imagine paying 399 euros for it. The fact that you are a regular of the brand or that you are used to premium sound will come into play when making the decision to be able to opt for one or another option. After tests, the Sonos Move offers a powerful and quality sound, a design and materials to match the brand and unlimited connectivity, it is a round product that may not be available to everyone.
