The Blackberry DTEK50 is now official and looks like a perfect copy of the Alcatel Idol 4

For a few days we had known that BlackBerry was finalizing the preparations to officially present two new mobile devices, with Android operating system and with a design and features on which several images and a large amount of information had been leaked. Although no one was waiting for the launch of either of the two terminals, a few hours ago the Canadian company officially presented the new BlackBerry DTEK50 or BlackBerry Neon as we knew it until now.

For this second Android smartphone, BlackBerry has had the help and support of Alcatel, which has created an almost exact copy of its Alcatel Idol 4, although the Canadians have been in charge of providing it with maximum security, one of the signs of identity of the company that Jhon Chen runs, its exclusive applications or its own personalization layer.

In addition, and although we will comment on it a little later, the price is significantly better than that of the BlackBerry Priv and means that it can be a mobile device within the reach of any user.

First of all, we are going to review the main features and specifications of this BlackBerry DTEK50;

  • Dimensions: 47 x 72.5 x 7.4 mm
  • Weight: 135 grams
  • 5,2-inch screen with Full HD resolution
  • Qualcomm Snapdragon 617 64-bit 8-core processor
  • 3 GB of RAM
  • 16 GB of internal storage expandable via microSD cards up to 2 TB
  • Connectivity: 4G, WiFi, Bluetooth 4.2 and NFC
  • 13 megapixel rear camera with f / 2.0 aperture and Full HD recording at 30 fps
  • 8 megapixel front camera with f / 2.2 aperture and recording in Full HD and 30 fps
  • 2.610 mAh battery
  • Android OS: 6.0 Marshmallow

In view of these specifications there is no doubt that BlackBerry and Alcatel have managed to create a more than interesting mobile device, although once again we could say that BlackBerry has lacked a step to say that it has created an outstanding device and that everyone would like to get their hands on. It is not only the design, but a somewhat outdated processor, a battery that may seem scarce and a version of Android that is by no means the latest available on the market, are some aspects that do not invite optimism and that surely they will not finish convincing a possible buyer.

BlackBerry

A design that we have seen before, but good software

When BlackBerry decided to partner with Alcatel to manufacture its new Android mobile devices, we all assumed that we would see a terminal that would bear some resemblance to those of the Idol series, which have been so successful and have received so many good comments from critics. . What almost no one expected is that heThe new BlackBerry, second with Android operating system, was an exact copy of the Alcatel Idol 4.

No matter where you look at it, this new BlackBerry reminds you of the successful Alcatel terminal, although yes, when you turn it on things change and it reminds us that we are looking at a device from the Canadian firm. And is that the company that Jhon Chen runs has used a version of Android with a layer of personalization not too loaded and that looks quite similar to the stock.

We can also meet BlackBerry Hub or BlackBerry Messenger installed natively, in addition to other exclusive BlackBerry applications. There is also no lack of security measures, one of the hallmarks of the Canadian company, and among which we could highlight protection for private data, measures against the installation of malware, a commitment to launch different security updates and even a protection against ROOT that surely fails to convince too many users.

Price and Availability

The BlackBerry Priv, the first Canadian mobile device with Android after the failure of the BlackBerry 10, raised enormous expectations in the market, but its price caused sales to fall far short of expectations. This BlackBerry DTEK50 however can boast of a more than adequate price and that is It is now available to book in several countries for a price of 339 euros, with the gift plus a 12.600mAh external battery.

Of course, as we have been able to know unfortunately, any user who launches today to reserve this new BlackBerry (you can do it through the link that you will find at the end of this page), will not receive it at his home until the next 8 August.

Keep in mind that Alcatel OneTouch is no longer the independent French brand of the XNUMXth century.
Now the Alcatel brand is owned by the Chinese company TCL China Corporation. For this reason the TCL Pop 3, Idol 3 and the new Idol 4, Idol 4S in Europe are sold as the OneTouch series.

For this reason, Blackberry may prefer to indicate that its new smartphone is manufactured by Alcatel, but the reality is that the manufacturing is in charge of TCL China Corporation, which is the only manufacturer behind the Alcatel brand.

I suppose that for Blackberry it is easier to sell its product if the manufacture is carried out by a brand like Alcatel, with the mental positioning that the brand has in Europe, than if it announces that the manufacturing is in charge of TCL Corporation, since still the connotation of Chinese smartphone is closely linked to cheap and poor quality products when reality is quite different.
