Surface Phone

We have been talking for a long time about a rumor that Microsoft could launch a smartphone under the name Surface to complement its Surface Pro tablet / laptop. On many occasions the rumors do not usually go beyond that, a simple rumor. However, on other occasions, the rumors that usually offer us more real data about a device that the company company in the announcement of the same. A clear example of what I am commenting on can be seen in the presentation of the iPhone 7, where most of the rumors were confirmed on the day that Apple presented it.

Today we are talking about the Surface Phone, a terminal that we have been talking about for more than a year and which is expected in theory for the end of this year or early 2017. On other occasions we have talked about the possibility that this terminal can move from using ARM processors to ones with x86 architecture, something that apparently would be sooner rather than later and we ignore the rumors that claim that the guys from Redmond would have the intention of betting on an Intel Kaby Lake processor.

This processor would have the integrated GPU, and would offer us a consumption and performance much higher than what we can currently find in mobile telephony. In addition, this type of processors would allow us to use desktop applications directly on our smartphone, a function that would make Continumm more meaningful, which allows us to connect our smartphone to a monitor and keyboard and use it as if it were a PC.

The size of the screen of this terminal would be large, between 5,5 and 6 inches with a resolution of 2.560.1.440 pixels. The cameras of the device would also be an aspect to highlight in the terminal with 21 mpx for the rear and 8 mpx for the front, a resolutions that go beyond what the main manufacturers are usually implementing of mobile telephony, where they have decided to reduce the resolution by opting to improve the quality of their sensors.
