We tested the A60 and Mini bulbs from the Lifx firm

The era of home automation is undoubtedly on the rise, so much so that most of us already have products that connected to our WiFi network are capable of making our lives much easier. Thermostats, air conditioning systems, surveillance, smoke detectors ... However, the one that is by far the most used and above all the most popular is the lighting system. We bring you an analysis of the two most popular bulbs from Lifx, one of the most important smart lighting firms. Stay with us and discover how these Lifx bulbs can make your life easier and above all illuminate it much better.

It is not the first time that we have analyzed home automation products, nor lighting, in this blog we have had Koogeek, Philips, Rowenta and much more. So we want to become your reference when it comes to knowing which devices are the most successful to make your home smart. So that, make yourself comfortable because we go there with the most relevant details of Lif bulbsx, this time we have two products of two different sizes, a standard size bulb and another called Mini.

Design and materials: Lifx is synonymous with quality

On this occasion we are going to gather opinions and details about the materials. We start with a very interesting unboxing, and that is Lifx has quite a peculiar packaging. We could say that they make the most of the space since we find a tubular box, inside we have the light bulb and a very small instruction booklet. With this Lifx wants to make it clear to us that its intention is to make the product easy for us and give us only what we expect, a light bulb. The reality is that in the world of technology sobriety is often appreciated, and the reality is that the tubular shape of the package that contains the bulbs has caught my attention.

The upper part of the bulb is made of semi-translucent white plastic, in the case of the Mini edition a semi-spherical shape, and in the case of the A60 model it is flattened at the top to take up as little space as possible. For its part, the design of the A60 model seemed to me the most successful, the flat bulbs seem to me more in accordance with the most popular designs today. For its part, the central area is rigid white plastic, signed by the company logo. The socket is the classic medium bulb (E27), compatible with the vast majority of today's lamps.

We easily realize that heThe materials of the bulb are well constructedWe do not see gaps that invite bugs to enter, or light leaks, or any other problem of this nature.

Lifx A60, powerful and multi-color lighting

Quickly, after installing the Lifx A60 we realized that it shines a lot, this is due to their 1.100 lumens that the brand assures us, this does not necessarily entail higher energy consumption, and is that according to European regulations they hold the A + certification. This bulb consumes 11w so it will not be a problem at the savings level, without a doubt. For its part, it is capable of offering us 16 million colors through the application that Lifx has in both the iOS App Store and the Google Play Store. At the level of durability, Lifx assures us 22,8 years of duration (based on a use of 3 hours a day), although why are we going to fool ourselves, it is obvious that it will last less. Lifx Mini, sometimes less is more

For its part, the Lifx Mini is smaller, but that does not mean by any means that it is worse. It has the same standardized E27 socket, but its power is 800 lumens, for what it will require 9W of continuous energy. At the level of color and durability, Lifx assures us that it is as good (or the same) as the aforementioned model. The reality is that although the A60 model is capable of illuminating a room by itself, and with very good lighting, the Lifx Mini is more well designed to work in company, that is, in lamps that include more than one bulb, or they are floor lamps or wall lamps that offer indirect lighting. Configure and use Lifix bulbs

The first steps are quite simpleWe simply have to screw in the bulb and proceed by opening the Lifx application. From that moment the light bulb will emit a WiFi network that will be detectable by the Lifx application, therefore we will select it within the application and they will be linked automatically. In the event that we take advantage of HomeKit, we are simply going to scan the code.

Incredibly, Lifx is fully compatible with almost any current and smart home automation system: Apple's HomeKit, Google Home and of course Amazon's Alexa. All this without forgetting to mention that it works with Nest products, hand in hand. In our case, as you can see in the video, we have tested them with Apple's HomeKit and through the Lifx application itself, this is how we have been able to remotely and easily manage the main customizable parameters: Brightness; Color and programming.

We have tested with Siri linked to HomeKit and also with Amazon's Alexa via the Echo smart speaker and the reality is that they do everything we ask of them. It easily responds to commands like "turn on my Lifx bulb red" and even adjusts the amount of brightness we want.

I have to admit that I have been extremely satisfied with the use of these bulbs, but we must bear in mind that we are dealing with high-end products when it comes to intelligent lighting. This means that perhaps many will not consider them their first option to have an approach with smart lighting products, however, as is my case, it is quite nice to know that there are still products of this type of quality, despite their price. . Lifx bulbs are expensive, there is no doubt about this, but they are a product of guarantees, quality and that provide the exact point of compatibility that anyone versed in the subject could wish for.
