WhatsApp extends operation for six months on older devices

WhatsApp iOS

We are talking a lot lately about BlackBerry, either because of the launch of new terminals, because of the new models that it will launch on the market with a physical keyboard ... Now it's the turn to talk not about the current models, but about the older models. A few months ago WhatsApp announced, like Skype, that it would stop providing service to devices with older operating systems, as is the case with smartphones with Android up to 2.2, iOS 6, S40 and S60 from Nokia, BlackBerry OS, Windows Phone 7 and BlackBerry OS. But users of these veteran terminals will still be able to continue using WhatsApp for the next six months, thanks to the extension that WhasApp has just announced for these users.

In many countries, especially those with emerging economies, access to terminals with more features is still very limited and the only terminals that you can buy are out of hand or are terminals that have been obtained second-hand and that currently have no other option available.

But the case of BlackBerry 10 is striking, an operating system with the BlackBerry tried to regain market share and whose operation is very similar to that of Android, in fact it allowed us to install Android applications by making some adjustments. The new term announced by WhatsApp is June 30, 2017. On that date, users who continue to use terminals not considered among those supported by WhatsApp will no longer be able to use the application.

WhatsApp is neither the first nor will it be the last developer to abandons a platform, for being obsolete and not being able to offer the different security measures that each new update offers us. Skype is another of the services that currently has stopped working on terminals with an Android version lower than 4.1, for the same reason as WhatsApp.
