Design and materials

This Wolfbox G840H rear view mirror is prominent, something bigger than the average of the mirrors that we see every day, and that is that it has a 12-inch screen. In our case we have mounted it on the rear view mirror of a Peugeot 407 and it covers it completely. It is made of semi-reflective glass, which will allow us to see the screen when we want, or use it as a standard mirror. On the upper edge we will find the connections that we will talk about later, on the lower one a single central on / off button for the screen and the complete device, and in the rear the main camera that will act as a dashcam, with a system that will allow us to adjust the recording direction.

Technical characteristics

This system mounts a dual-core ARMCortex A7 processor with a power of 900 MHz, more than enough for the performance of the Wolfbox rearview mirror that executes its tasks without lag and turns on very quickly once we start driving. We do not have, of course, knowledge regarding the capacity of RAM that the device mounts. For its part, we have a microSD card reader, this is included with a capacity of 32 GB and the rear-view mirror will be in charge of storing and erasing the content according to the assigned configuration.

We have an external GPS antenna included in the package, as well as a rear camera with 1080P resolution that has various supports depending on our needs. The screen, which is fully tactile, has an FHD resolution more than enough for the performance of daily tasks. For its part we have G-Sensor that will make recordings when it detects accidents, as well as parking monitoring If we adjust it to a permanent power source that allows it, it will depend on the type of installation we carry out at the time.

GPS antenna and installation

The installation is going to be much easier than we could imagine. As for the rear view mirror, we simply adjust it with some rubber washers included in the box to our rear view mirror and it will be perfectly adjusted. Now touch the wiring, we start with the miniUSB, which I recommend going through the right area of ​​the vehicle, We simply insert the cable from above, hidden behind the headliner, as appropriate (I recommend watching the video or reading the instructions on the package) to one of the car lighters.

We now get the GPS antenna, It is connected through another port for this purpose. The antenna has 3M tape, so I recommend gluing it to the windshield glass for the best possible results.

Finally, the rear camera, a 6 meter cable is included that will be enough in most cases. We are putting the cable through the upholstery until we reach the back. We pass the cable through the hole of the license plate lamp and glue the rear camera in the central area of ​​the bumper on the license plate itself without covering it. Now play connect the red wire to the same wire that supplies power to the "reverse" light, in this way the camera will activate the parking lines. In less than two hours you should have completed the complete installation. With these steps we will finally have the system installed.

Dashcam recording and parking system

The dashcam will perform loop recording depending on our settings, we can adjust sections of between 1 and 5 minutes. We have WDR technology that avoids contrast with night lights in order to maintain a clear recording. Having G-Sensor, the recording will be stored and blocked when it detects a sudden movement, the same can be done if we make a "double tap" on the screen.

If we have connected the red cable to the current of the reversing light, when we introduce the «R» they will appear the parking aid lines in the rear view mirror, which we must first calibrate manually (by touching the screen) so that it offers us a reliable result. At all times we will be able to choose whether to see the rear or front camera on the screen, as well as interact with the brightness of it by sliding on the left side of the mirror.

As for the GPS, If we have installed it correctly, it will offer us coordinates of the place where we are making the recording as well as show us the exact speed in real time in the lower left part of the rear-view mirror. This system has performed well in our tests. The night recording has also been quite favorable, without problems in this regard.

In our tests, the camera has performed very well. It has an internal microphone so we will be able to adjust whether or not we want the sound to be recorded, in the same way that in the settings we will be able to select Spanish as the language. If we have done the installation well enough, the reality is that we obtain fabulous results and I have found it to be the most interesting security system at the best price that we can install to travel this summer.
