Word Viewer: a Microsoft tool for reading and printing Office documents

WordViewer 01

Despite there being a large number of alternatives when it comes to read Office documents, this could represent having to install third-party applications on our Windows computer. If we are going to perform this task, what better way to use the tool proposed by Microsoft, which is Word Viewer.

Word Viewer is a small tool that you can install in any version of Windows and thus, turn your computer (no matter how old it is) into a small Office document reader. Due to the small amount of resources that this application consumes, we could well try to reuse those computers that we were about to dispose of, since Word Viewer does not require a large space on your hard disk, nor does it require extensive RAM or an exceptional screen resolution. big.

What can I do with Word Viewer within Windows?

The first thing to mention is that Word Viewer is just a small viewer as defined by the name of this tool. By this we mean that under no circumstances will we be able to edit an Office document but rather, dedicate ourselves to the task of reviewing the content of one of them. We recommend that you go to the download website for this tool from the official Microsoft site, where you only have to define the language you want to work with in its interface.

After that you will jump to a new window of the Internet browser, where the user will be suggested to download some other plugins. Next we will place a small image of it, where (on our part) we have not chosen msn or Bing as the home page in the default search engine for our Internet browser.

Other additional options might suggest the integration of viewers for PowerPoint or Excel as well as downloading a few professional tools to edit these Office files. If you do not want to have any of these add-ons, you only have to uncheck their boxes and then choose the blue button that is located towards the bottom right.

After Word Viewer finishes with its installation process you will have to run it, at which point you will find a completely clean and friendly interface at the same time. At the top of its interface is the toolbar, which will help us import the Office document that we want to migrate from Word Viewer.

WordViewer 04

When we do it with the "File" button in Word Viewer, a file explorer window will open automatically. On the left side will be present an options bar, which will help us:

  • Open recent documents.
  • Browse on the Windows desktop.
  • Search my documents.
  • Search for some file from My Computer.
  • Locate a file on our local network.

You just have to try to find the place where one of the Office files is located, and this could be one of Word, PowerPoint or Excel mainly. A little trick that we recommend you perform additionally is that you try to find a document that you have hosted in the cloud.

If your personal computer is synchronized with any of them (OneDrive, Drive, DropBox) you only have to try to find the folder that is synchronized to the cloud with these services. To do this, you have to:

WordViewer 06

  1. Select from the left side to the option «desktop«.
  2. Locate the folder of your username on the right side (in our case, Rodrigo Iván Pacheco).
  3. Double click on that folder.

WordViewer 07

Once you carry out these three simple steps you will be able to find all those folders that you may have synced with one of the cloud services; In the screenshot that we have placed at the top, OneDrive and iCloud are shown, and a few more may appear, as this will depend on whether you are using them and obviously, if you have access to them with the respective credentials.

A very interesting aspect that Word Viewer offers us this in reading mode, Well, when you get to open a Word document (to give a small example of it), in the "View" option of the toolbar there is the possibility of choosing a different view, one of them being the one that simulates have an electronic book on our computer.
