Xiaomi Max, a huge phablet that has left us very good feelings

Xiaomi has become over time one of the best and most popular manufacturers of mobile devices of all those present in the market. In part, it has achieved this by knowing how to differentiate itself from other manufacturers, offering interesting and different devices in many cases, with also quite low prices. An example of this is the Xiaomi Max, a phablet with a 6.44-inch screen that in recent weeks we have been able to test and especially enjoy.

The first thing that can be said about this Xiaomi Max is what you all already know, it is absolutely huge, but on a day-to-day basis it offers you more advantages than disadvantagesAlthough transporting it in a trouser pocket or in your own hand can be a not impossible mission, but it is quite uncomfortable.

Integrated

The first thing that surprised us right out of the box this mobile device is its size and is that although we knew that it was a really large device, with a screen of more than 6 inches, its size was also surprising.

As for the dimensions we find a height of 173 millimeters and a width of 88 millimeters. Its thickness is only 7,5 millimeters which makes it a really slim mobile device. Its dimensions, combined with its weight of 203 grams make this device impossible to handle with one hand, something that we already had, although Xiaomi's software incorporates a really interesting feature to handle this Max with just one hand.

As for the design itself, we find a metallic finish that gives this terminal a totally Premium appearance.

Screen

Without a doubt one of the most positive aspects of this Xiaomi Max is its huge 6.44-inch screen and that will allow us to enjoy, for example, multimedia content in a spectacular way at any time and place.

As for the screen at a technical level we find an IPS LCD panel, with a Full HD resolution of 1.920 x 1.080 pixels, protected with Gorilla Glass 4 and with a slight 2,5 D curved effect on its edges. This curvature can go completely unnoticed until, for example, we put a tempered glass on it and see how it is not perfectly placed.

One of the great advantages of this phablet, and that it does not make it an excessively large device, are the reduced edges that we find on the front panel. The screen occupies 75% of the front, when for example in a 7-inch tablet it usually occupies 62%.

Camera

As we have already mentioned, the main camera, which is the one that really worries most users, has a 16 megapixel sensor, with an aperture of f / 2.0 and which is accompanied by a dual LED flash with dual tone.

Without a doubt, the camera of this Xiaomi Max does not offer bad results, as you can see in the gallery that we show you below, but without a doubt it is not at the level of other terminals of the mid-range or high-range. If you want your mobile device to take pictures at any time and place, and with any kind of light, this terminal is not the best for it.

As a tip, we can tell you that whenever you rest the device on a surface the results improve exponentially. In addition, the HDR mode can also offer us great results.

Performance

In this Xiaomi Max we find the Six-core Snapdragon 650 processor, two of which are clocked at 1,8 GHz and the other four are clocked at 1,4 GHz. Its GPU is an Adreno 510.

As for RAM, in the most basic model, which we have tested, it offers us 3 GB of RAM with an internal storage of 32 GB of memory. Also on the market there is already another version with 4 GB of RAM and a storage of 64 GB.

With these specifications, the performance offered by this terminal is more than good and we have not encountered any problem when executing any application or game.

Battery

With a terminal of such enormous dimensions, it was to be expected that it would have a battery with great autonomy, which has 4.850 mAh, but unfortunately it does not offer us great autonomy. And is that the screen is huge and to "give life" you need a huge battery drain.

As in other mobile devices, the battery does not last beyond a day as soon as we use it, but unfortunately this is already normal and that almost all of us have more than assumed. As a constructive criticism, we should point out to Xiaomi that for future devices, and having a terminal with such large dimensions, it should not skimp when it comes to battery. Of course, nobody should forget that the battery of this device is so fair due to its design that it offers us a very small thickness.

Availability and price

As usually happens with all Xiaomi devices, these are not sold in an official way in too many countries, not even in Spain, where we must buy it or from Chinese stores through the network of networks. There is also the possibility of purchasing in Spain in both online and physical stores. In our case we have acquired it in AviMobile with a price of $279, which includes a guarantee from the store itself and a very friendly treatment.

In China its official price is 1.499 yuan, about 205 euros to change for the 32 GB version. Hopefully someday the gadgets of the Chinese manufacturer will be sold officially in our country, in order to benefit from such succulent prices, but for now we have to settle for being able to buy them through third parties, although with a price slightly higher than the official price and having a guarantee which is not direct from the manufacturer, but also through third parties.

Finally, although it has been rumored that new versions of this Xiaomi Max could be launched in other colors, at the moment it is only available in silver, gold and gray, with the front in all cases in white.

Editor's opinion

I have always liked mobile devices with a large screen and this Xiaomi Max captivated me from the first moment it hit the market. Although I have a terminal today with which I am completely satisfied, I did not think for a single moment to buy this terminal and acquire it by paying an amount that after testing it may seem somewhat high.

My personal assessment, if we were in school, it would be a pass that points, depending on the user, to a slightly higher grade. The camera is without a doubt and for me its weakest point, in addition to the battery that offers us a much less autonomy than expected.

Its screen, of such large dimensions, is undoubtedly the best of this Xiaomi Max, although it makes the size of the device perhaps too large for most users. If Xiaomi had manufactured a true phablet to try to conquer the market, it should have placed the Mi5 camera for example and surely the high number of devices would have skyrocketed even more. They have preferred to do things by halves, and we have had to settle for a terminal halfway between the magnificent of its screen and its camera of a level too low for what we expected and we all wanted.

This Xiaomi Max is not a terminal aimed at just any user and is that not everyone needs such a large screen and above all, most users do not want to have to carry such a large mobile device daily.
